La Smartquesina integra el uso de las nuevas tecnologías con el fin de permitir al ciudadano realizar operaciones y consultas de una forma sencilla desde la parada del autobús, bien con su propio smartphone bien con la pantalla interactiva dispuesta a tal efecto en la marquesina. Conectada con una red digital dinámica es posible reproducir en las pantallas de la Smartquesina, en tiempo real y de forma remota, información de servicio dirigida al ciudadano. Permite realizar trámites de ciudad, así como convertirse en un punto de descarga de apps sobre turismo e información del municipio. El Ayuntamiento establece el uso de los espacios en pantalla, pudiéndose combinar así la información de servicio con la explotación publicitaria. La Smartquesina se trata de una plataforma de información interactiva que mediante tecnología contactless NFC permite al ciudadano descargarse información de alto valor añadido, como los horarios y la planificación de la ruta. Para los dispositivos no equipados con tecnología NFC se introduce de forma paralela el sistema de código QR. Además, ofrece servicio de acceso a internet wifi gratuito. La explotación comercial del espacio en pantalla da un rendimiento económico a la Smartquesina. A su vez las empresas anunciadas se benefician del atractivo formato de publicidad exterior dinámico y digital. Éste formato consigue mayor impacto que los formatos tradicionales y permite integrar la compra directa del producto (entradas a museos, teatros, títulos de transporte, etc.) vía NFC, desde la pantalla táctil de la marquesina o mediante el dispositivo móvil.
