King Lear decides to divide his kingdom between his three daughters, asking them to declare their love for him. When his favorite daughter Cordelia refuses to flatter him, he disinherits her. This sends the kingdom into chaos, as Lear's other daughters and their husbands betray him. Lear descends into madness while Cordelia and the Earl of Gloucester are mistreated.
