Konvicted Script
Voiceover (Hugo): This is me now. After ten years in that shithole, finally out. Freedom. This all
started from one betrayal.1
Scene 2
Mike: Alright Guv’nor.
Hugo: Alright Geezer! Where have you been?
Mike: I’ve been busy mate, I’ve had too much stuff on me old crust and bread recently2
. And
where were you last night?
Hugo: Was at the old Brighton Cock and Bull I tried calling you but you weren’t picking up for
some reason?
Mike:Sorry mate, I forgot to tell you my phone broke a few weeks back. Anyway, you sure we
should be doing this?
Hugo (Voiceover): At this point I should have realised that he never did have any bollocks about
him. Just look at his stance, the fear in his eyes.. he was never up for living the life we were. I
risked it anyway.
3
Hugo:Listen mate, stop shitting yourself, it’s fine4
. Once we get the bread and honey we rightly
deserve it’s sorted.
Mike: Yeah I know, but can we trust these lot? They’re uni students and you know what they’re
like.
Hugo: Don’t worry, I know these boys; they won’t put a foot wrong. If anything, it’s the cops we
should be worried about. We’ll get the money we rightly deserve, and then leave..
Mike: Alright cool, they’re taking their time. Where are they? I’m freezing my jacobs off.
Hugo: I know, I’ve been waiting here for 15 minutes. It’s cold enough to freeze the balls off a
brass monkey.
Mike: Wait a minute. I think that’s them there.
Hugo: Yeah that’s them. Act firm.
Narrative Gap
Hugo: Bonjour boys. What took you so long?
Character 3: Sorry mate, we’ll be early next time.
Mike: Next time?
Hugo: Calm down Mike. Boys, you wanted a gram of the finest King Henry the eighth out there,
1
Voiceover and non-diegetic sound is a technique often used by Martin Scorcese and makes for
memorable and quotable taglines such as the timeless “As far back as I can remember I always wanted
to be a gangster in the film; ‘goodfellas’
2
We researched cockney rhyming slang to replicate a more realistic experience of the modern cockney
underworld for the audience,
3
The use of a cockney voiceover at this point is inspired by Jonathan Glazer’s ‘Sexy Beast’, I felt it
should be included in our script as it adds more than only a visual dimension to the media piece.
4
We wanted to make our two protagonists a double act in some ways and to do this we gave them
juxtaposed views towards their job. Hugo is much more ambitious but less realistic than Mike. His
ambition sets him up for his fall in the disturbance to his equilibrium (Todorov’s theory) and therefore
gives aspects of a tragedy in our film.
got the money?
Character 3:Right here
*EXCHANGE OF DRUGS AND MONEY, FREEZE FRAME*
Hugo: Enjoy.
Mike:Hugo did you just see that? I could’ve sworn to you I just saw the cops walk past.
Officer 1: Oi fellas! What are you lot up to?
Mike: Told you! It’s the batty squad bikers!
Chase Scene
Officer 2: You have the right to remain silent. Anything said may harm your defence in court.
Officer: 1: What do we call you then?
Hugo: Call me fucking Susan if it makes you happy.5
5
Hugo is still showing defiance despite being defeated; making him a conventional anti-hero as the
audience still take his side despite his lack of goodness or nobility
