• Title:
  – Mistaken Beliefs About Where Clouds
Come From and Why It Rains
• Author:
  – David R. Wetzel
Misconception About Clouds
• Clouds come from somewhere above the sky.
• Clouds are mostly smoke, made of cotton or
wool, or they are bags of water.
• Clouds are sponges that hold water.
• Clouds are water vapor.
• Clouds are dust particles.
• Clouds go to the sea and get filled with water.
• The reason clouds form is because cold air
doesn’t hold as much water as warm air
• Clouds are formed by vapor from kettles
• Clouds are made of cotton, wool, or smoke
MISCONCEPTION ABOUT RAIN
• Rain comes from clouds sweating
• Rain occurs when clouds are shaken
• Rain falls out of the sky when the clouds evaporate.
• Rain comes from holes in clouds.
• Rain comes from clouds melting.
• Rain falls from funnels in the clouds.
• Rain occurs because we need it.
• Rain occurs when clouds collide.
• Rain occurs when clouds become too heavy.
• Rain is called by frogs.
• Weather is so hot, that’s why it is raining
• Cloud is crying.
• Rain dance by Native American to call rain.
SCIENTIFIC EXPLANATION FOR
     CLOUD FORMATION
• Cloud formation is dependent upon the amount of
  water evaporating and condensing. Water
molecules are continually changing state between
solid, liquid and gas. When more molecules
evaporate into the atmosphere than condense on
  earth, clouds can form.
• Cloud Formation.flv
SCIENTIFIC EXPLANATION
    FOR RAIN FORMATION
• Rain occurs when the water droplets are
sufficiently heavy to remain airborne they
  fall from the clouds.
