- 2. Goal • To acquaint our members with the controls and operation of reserve Ladder 37. After successfully completing this training, and the provided handouts, members will be certified to operate Ladder 37.
- 3. Objectives • Through presentation and hands-on practice, the Firefighter will become familiar with the control layout and operation on Ladder 37. • Given different scenarios, the Firefighter will gain familiarity with the operation of Ladder 37 by successfully completing a series of operational sets.
- 4. Objectives (cont) • Given a scenario handout, and working as a team, the shift will complete a ladder pipe scenario in 5 minutes or less. • Through presentation and hands-on practice, the Firefighter will become familiar with, and operate the auxiliary equipment and power tools on Ladder 37.

- 14. Jacking • Master Power On • Ladder/Jack Selector in Jack Position • DO NOT Lower Jacks If They Cannot Fully Extend Outward • Extend And Lower High Side Jacks First- Remove Bulge From Tires
- 15. Jacking (Cont) • Extend & Lower Opposite Side- Tires 1-2” Off Ground • Level Using Left Side Jacks • Should Get Interlock • If Not, Move Right then Left Lever Down Quickly
- 16. Aerial Operation • Switch To “Ladder” at Jack Control Panel • Pedestal Controls Similar To Ladder 1 • Throttle Switch on Right • Aerial Controls (L-R) – Up/Down – Left/Right Rotation – Extend/Retract

- 19. Ladder Load Examples • 0-25 Degrees: OK for 1 man at tip with no more than 102’ indicated extension, no water. • 25-35 Degrees: OK to full extension with 1 man, no water. • > 35 Degrees: OK to flow water, varying manpower restrictions.

- 22. Waterway Operation (cont) • Supply through 4” X 5” Jaffrey Valve or 3 X 2 ½” Siamese • Drain Valve • Maximum Elevation To Drain- can be retracted.
- 24. Generator Operation • ONAN 6Kw Diesel • Breaker Panel In Compt. On Driver side • Starting Procedure – Preheat 1 min. – Engage Starter While Continuing to Preheat – Continue Preheat Until Running Smoothly
- 25. Operating On Slopes • Operate No Greater Than 6% grade Either Direction. • Operate Off High Side Whenever Possible • Ensure Interlock
- 26. Extreme Weather • Do Not Operate in Winds in Excess of 35 mph • Beware and Allow for Icing • Slowed Operation in Cold Weather
- 27. Emergency Operations • Auxiliary Hydraulic Pump – 5 min on/ 10 min off • Interlock Override – EMERGENCY USE ONLY! – Do Not Override To Ladder Unless Jacks Are Set – Do Not Override To Jacks Unless Ladder Is Bedded – Visible Button To Power Jacks – Reach Behind To Power Ladder
