Curriculum
• The word language is derived from Latin word lingua or lingue which means produced
with the tongue. Hence language means a thing which is produced with the tongue. Lets
see few definitions as below
• Edward spair :‘’ language is a purely human and non instinctive method of communicating
ideas emotions and desire by means of system of voluntarily produced symbols’’
• George LTrager : language is a set of arbitrary vocal symbols by means of which a social
group operates communicates and express their emotions, feelings and desires

HOME LANGUAGE AND SCHOOL LANGUAGE :
First language on home language is called by many other names as mother language vernacular
language and native language .
1) The term first language refers to the language that a person acquires in early childhood.
2) It is easy 2 memorise and understand the information in the language which we learn
naturally by our surroundings
3) It can help in preservation of our own mother tongue and can develop more vocabulary.
4) A child who starts school knowing only home language needs more practice to learn
school language.
ADVANTAGES OF HOME LANGUAGE
• Parents are more likely to participate in their child’s learning.
• Protecting and preserving local language.
• Children are more likely to enroll and succeed in school.
• Better thinking skills.
• Expand the reach of education.
DISADVANTAGES OF HOME LANGUAGE
• Painful shift in higher education.
• Connecting with the rest of the world.

SECOND LANGUAGE /SCHOOL LANGUAGE
• More informally a second language can be said to be any language learn in addition to
one’s language in addition to one's native language, especially in context of learning a
new foreign language.
• Language which is learned in addition to a person's first language.
• In the course of learning a second language learners will frequently encounter
communication caused by a lack of linguistic resources.
SECOND LANGUAGE /SCHOOL LANGUAGE
• Advantage :
Children learns a language fast.
Learning of foreign language helps children have better education and job opportunities.
Disadvantages:
learning of new language at early age may be confusing and waste of time.
Learning may delay development of the child's first language.
Primary school teachers may be not well trained to teach or foreign language.
children needs to concentrate in learning their mother tongue rather than learning a school language
