LARGE SCALE
PRODUCTION
OF
BIO-CONTROL
AGENTS
Prepared By
Aaliya Afroz
Ph. D. Scholar
Dept. of Entomology, IGKV, Raipur
Introduction
§ Large scale production of bio control agents or mass culture of natural enemies is
the insectary propagation of large numbers (usually millions) of natural enemies
for release against selected pests at strategic times.
§ It is relatively expensive and is therefore ordinarily used on limited acreages of
high-value crops.
§ It is also restricted to situations in which both the natural enemy and its host
(either natural or a suitable substitute) can be easily cultured.
Trichogramma egg parasite
§ Major equipment needed
§ Semi-automatic Corcyra rearing cages,
§ Trays, iron racks,
§ Hot air oven, air conditioner,
§ UV chamber, incubator,
§ Moth breeding tins, grinder,
§ Mating chambers, parasitization jars,
§ Refrigerator, wire mesh,
§ Nylon cloth.
