Regular project consists of the steps - such
as the production line at the factory.

implementation
What are the disadvantages?
1. Lack of cooperation between
each teams
UX designer created a mock-up, graphic designer made
layouts with its amendments, webmaster cuted images to
HTML as the easiest way… The final solution is different
from the original project.
2. Large amount of time and money
We verify the functionality or service after closing of the
whole process - the implementation phase is often the most
expensive and time-consuming. The project is outdated and
new solutions are available before we finish.

implementation
Lean UX is a completely different
approach. We need to make small changes
on mockups and testing
on users immediately.
Testing and mock-ups fixes should be
repeated until the optimum product. After
reaching the optimum project shall be
forwarded to implement.

What are the advantages of
working in Lean?
1. Informed decisions
The changes introduced are tested by users.
This is not just a designer’s vision - he may
be at wrong.
2. Reduced time and cost
Lean UX is a testing on mockups and
continuous improvement by iterations. We do
not lose time to implement untested
prototypes..
3. High flexibility
Prototypes are modified during the process -
it allows you to make changes "on-line"
without wasting time making them in the next
steps.
the biggest waste is to create service
or product that nobody needs
introduction to Design Thinking
Why use Design Thinking?
Design Thinking methodology is identifying needs to
make the right solutions.
In this interdisciplinary methodology we are working
to implement innovative solutions.
Design Thinking is used to generate new
or optimize existing services in all dimensions.
Stages of work in Design Thinking
1. Empathize
How do customers make a decision?
2. Define
What customers care?
3. Ideate
Generating ideas. What works best
4. Prototype
How quickly give the product to customers
5. Testowanie.
What we must change?
The benefits of working in Design Thinking?
1. Shorter design process and eliminate errors
2. Response to the real user needs
3. Solutions which create a positive experience
4. Eliminate the problem areas
5. Innovation
Lean UX vs Design Thinking
the similarities
innovation
both methods are focused
on innovation in existing
or completely new designs
user centered design
user are in first place in both methodologies
testing mockups
both methods prefer testing on prototypes to
save time and money
fast iterations
fast iterations in both methodologies
design thinking
fail early to succeed sooner

Lean UX vs Design Thinking
the differences
Start of project
• Lean Startup
Business idea
Possible modifications
during the process
• Design Thinking
Challenge - the problem to be
solved
The idea appears as the next
phase of the process
User Research
• Lean Startup
Without research - a
project starts with a vision.
• Design Thinking
Qualitative research is the first
phase of the process.
Synthesis
• Lean Startup
No step synthesis.
• Design Thinking
Building conclusions based on
insights collected.
Customer Journey Mapping,
Persons, Empathy maps.
Ideation
• Lean Startup
No step ideation - rely on
the original business
idea.
• Design Thinking
The step of generating ideas
and selecting optimal.
Iterations
• Lean Startup
Hypothesis testing - before
make the prototype.
• Design Thinking
Iterations at the stage of
prototyping.
Business Model
• Lean Startup
Using Business Model
Canvas.
BMC elements considered
as hypotheses and tested
before.
• Design Thinking
Partial use of BMC - Proposal
values.
Quantitative methods
• Lean Startup
Testing using quantitative
methods.
A / B testing, landing page
• Design Thinking
Only qualitative methods - IDI,
ethnography.
Lean UX vs Design Thinking
how to connect both methodology
previous iterations (after ideation)
quantitative methods in gathering feedback
fuller use of BMC
identification of customer needs - qualitative
methods in research
include a stage of the synthesis
inclusion ideation step
