This document summarizes a student's observation of a Grade 7 garments exploratory class. The teacher used active learning and collaborative approaches. Students worked in groups and engaged in higher-order thinking. The teacher looked for opportunities for student-led instruction and accepted student questions and suggestions. This facilitated cognition by providing knowledge, metacognition by encouraging creative and critical thinking, and positive motivation by encouraging participation. Visual aids and a sewing machine were used. Learning was assessed through a written exam. The student reflected that teachers play a vital role in using different approaches based on topic needs, materials, and learner characteristics.
