• Geothermal energy is clean energy, because no fuel is burned.
• Geothermal power plants use steam from wells that reach deep in
the earth into geothermal reservoirs.
• These reservoirs are usually found along the earth's major plate
boundaries, where volcanoes and earthquakes occur most frequently.
• Since there are no physical signs above ground for geothermal
reservoirs, geologists must drill a well and test the temperature of the
ground to see if there is a reservoir that can be used.
Geothermal Energy Source
• There are three types of geothermal energy used to make electricity:
Hydrothermal - Uses steam and hot water.
Geopressured - Uses hot water (around 350 degrees Fahrenheit)
and hydraulic turbines.
Petro thermal - Uses dry hot rocks requiring water injections to
make steam.
• The most widely used process is hydrothermal, where steam is
pumped from wells directly from the reservoir to a giant turbine.

Son-Narmada-Tapi (SONATA)
According to news in economic times on
17th Feb 2013, Chhattisgarh government
has decided to establish the first
Geothermal Power Plant of the country in
the newly formed Balrampur district of the
state
Biomass Energy
• Biomass energy comprises different
forms of usable energy obtained from
materials referred to as biomass. A
biomass is a biological material in solid,
liquid or gaseous form that has stored
sunlight in the form of chemical energy.
• By burning bark, wood chips, sawdust
and “pulp liquor” (a mixture of pulping
chemicals and organic material), saw
mills and pulp and paper plants create
heat for drying kilns and produce steam
and electricity to meet their needs or to
sell to the grid.

energy-in-canada.html
Biomass Energy
The leading states for biomass power projects are
Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka each one having
more than 1 GW of Grid interacted biomass power. Other
states with favorable policy and opportunities in Biomass are
Punjab and Bihar.

First Integrated Geothermal and Biomass
Plant in the World
Enel Green Power has announced the
completion of a 5 megawatt (MW) biomass
power plant in Italy’s Tuscany region that
integrates biomass with geothermal steam
generation.
https://www.renewableenergyworld.com/2015/08/03/world-s-first-integrated-geothermal-and-biomass-
plant-goes-online/#gref
It is projected that the integration of the
biomass plant will boost the overall Cornia
2 geothermal plant output by some 30
gigawatt hours (GWh) a year. It will also
mitigate the emission of 13,000 tonnes of
CO2 annually.
