- 5. Crystal diode as a rectifier A crystal diode, often referred to as a semiconductor diode, can be used as a rectifier in electronic circuits. Rectification is the process of converting alternating current (AC) into direct current (DC), and diodes are commonly used for this purpose. A crystal diode, which is typically made of semiconductor materials like silicon or germanium, has the unique property of allowing current to flow in one direction while blocking it in the opposite direction. This property makes it suitable for rectification.
