The power provided is direct current (DC) electricity. The basic building block is known as solar cell. Many cells puts together are known as a module and many modules assembled together from an array. A PV system will consist of an array of modules generating DC electricity.an inverter and can be stored in battery storage banks Advantages PV panels provide clean – green energy. During electricity generation with PV panels there is no harmful greenhouse gas emissions thus solar PV is environmentally friendly. Solar energy is energy supplied by nature – it is thus free and abundant! Solar energy can be made available almost anywhere there is sunlight PV panels have no mechanically moving parts, except in cases of –sun-tracking mechanical bases; consequently they have far less breakages or require less maintenance than other renewable energy systems (e.g. wind turbines) PV panels are totally silent, producing no noise at all; consequently, they are a perfect solution for urban areas and for residential applications (see solar panels for home) Economical with little to no running cost. Disadvantages As in all renewable energy sources, solar energy has intermittency issues; not shining at night but also during daytime there may be cloudy or rainy weather. Consequently, intermittency and unpredictability of solar energy makes solar energy panels less reliable a solution. Solar energy panels require additional equipment (inverters) to convert direct electricity (DC) to alternating electricity (AC) in order to be used on the power network. For a continuous supply of electric power, especially for on- grid connections, Photovoltaic panels require not only Inverters but also storage batteries; thus increasing the investment cost for PV panels considerably In case of land-mounted PV panel installations, they require relatively large areas for deployment; usually the land space is committed for this purpose for a period of 15-20 years – or even longer. safeguard a PV investment. There is more glazing area on the south east elevation which will allow natural light and heat from the sun. The buildings south elevation side has an existing apartment so it needs to be 1 hour fire rated wall but south east side I have put high performance triple glazed curtain walling . Rainwater harvesting system In this building have a large amount of clear roof space collecting it and recycling water will be no problem. Water collected from the roof will be filtered with and stored in a 40000 m3 tank located in the building site. This filtered clean water will be pumped to much smaller tank on the roof so this water will be use as flushing toilet and urinals on the building .while outdoor water can be feed directly from the outdoor tank This system will be very useful for my building .I have include my calculation for rainwater harvesting system you can see Wood pellet boiler Biomass is a form of renewable energy that can reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. Instead of burning fossil fuels for energy, biomass uses organic materials. These organic materials are derived from a variety of sources. Wood sources such as trees are commonly used, but energy crops, food waste or industrial waste can also be exploited as fuel in biomass heating. The fuel is burned in boilers and stoves and the energy generated heats water and space. Stoves generally are only useful to heat one room, whereas boilers are able to heat whole properties. Rather than burning expensive oil or gas the boiler burns wood pellets instead The boiler will have 3 main parts the boiler, the hopper and the store. The wood pallets are kept in the store. And the hopper automatically adds them to the boiler, to minimise the amount of work. The wood pallet is fuel, just like gas or oil. Only this is more environmentally friendly and renewable energy. And cheaper to burn . Advantages Biomass is considered a carbon neutral form of energy because the carbon dioxide released when it is burned is only that which was absorbed by the plant during its life. Therefore there is no gain or loss of carbon dioxide. It is high efficient system The pallets are produced from west material Another financial benefit of using biomass boilers for heating is that there is less exposure to the fluctuations of the energy market Disadvantage Installing a biomass boiler or stove is not cheap Requires a lot of storage space. Need regular cleaning and maintenance How its integrated: The wood pellet boiler will be stored in the basement level in the plant room .i have done the calculation include my report. All of the sizes are worked out making it the Deciding factor in which I chose this system in the leisure centre. Suppose total energy required is =805000kwh Step 2: Calculate quantity of pellets required to meet the above energy demand for the building. Use thumb rule: Energy content of 1 kg pellet= approx. 5 kWh So for 805000 kwh ,?kg pellet ,=805000/5 =161000 kgs.or 161 tonnes Step 3: Calculate the total cost for using pellets Use thumb rule: €230 per tonne (Bulk Pellets) and€299 per tonne (Bagged Pellets) Ie,230 x161 =37030 euros. Step4: Calculate the total volume of pellets used Use thumb rule:1 m³ pellets = 650 kg So for 161000 kg of pellets total volume= 161000/650= 247.5m3. Step 5: Calculate total volume required for pellet store =Total volume of pellet used * 3/2……if total storage =x then 2/3 *x = 248 or ie, x = 248*3/2= 372 m3 Step 6: Calculate Total heat demand Use Thumb rule:Per 1 kW heat demand = 0.9 m³ of the space (incl. empty space) So for 372 m3 of pellets it is 372/ 0.9 = 413KW Ventilation Stack ventilation uses temperature differences to move air. Hot air rises because it is lower pressure. Cool air is sucked in through low intent openings and hotter exhaust air escape through outlet openings. The ventilation rate is proportional to the area of openings. Placing opening at the bottom and top of an open space will encourage natural ventilation through a stack ventilation. Advantages This system will improved air quality in a building. It will improved ventilation in a building Economical with little running cost. Energy saving as there is no need for HAVC system to cool the building. Environmentally friendly. Limitations The air on the outside must be cooler then the air inside for the stack ventilation to work Risk of cold bridging (need to be insulated) How I integrated: The stack ventilation will be placed at the top of the atrium in the leisure centre building which will allow the hot air pass through to the outside Therefore bringing in new fresh air keeping the building ventilated. Where there is atrium in a building stack ventilation is the best strategy to use as they have a large difference in height between air inlets and outlets.so stack will be start from basement to atrium level. 3D Building with Glazing Unit 3 Proposed curtain walling to allow natural light into the space, with proposed passivent aircool ventilators to allow natural ventiltion into the GYM.
