Grammar Unit 21 Body Language V-ing form
V-ing form   can be used as predicative subject object besides
V- ing  form can be used as   attribute an   interest ing   crosstalk an   amus ing   story a   flam ing   argument an   excit ing  evening
an   interesting  crosstalk The crosstalk  is   interesting . Predicative :    after  link  verbs or  be  verbs an  amusing  story The story  sounds   amusing. an  exciting  match T he match  looks   exciting. a  disappointing  dish The dish  tastes   disappointing. a  flaming  argument The argument  is  flaming.

Wav ing   one’s arms  means  feeling very happy. Touch ing  one’s stomach  means  “ I’m full.” or “ I’ve a stomachache”. Cup ping  one’s ear  means  “ I can’t hear you.”. v-ing v-ing
Moving the index finger from side to side   “come here” . “  come here ”  moving the index finger from side to side . means A good way of saying is subject predicative

Do you mind my sitting down for a while? He likes going to the mountains every weekend. My grandfather is nearly seventy and he still enjoys playing  tennis. I can’t go to the cinema today. I have to finish doing my homework. He bought a new cell phone, but ended up receiving a lot of useless short messages. take taking
Subject: In many countries,  shaking one’s head  means “no” and  nodding  means “ yes”. Learning a foreign language  is very useful to me. Seeing  is  believing. Object: He finished  reading the book  yesterday. I enjoy  learning English . We can learn a lot about what a person is thinking by  watching his or her body language . Predicative: A good way of  saying “ I am full”  is  moving the hand in circles over the stomach  after a meal. The music is  exciting .

Homework .Finish the exercise on page 121. .Make 5 sentences with v-ing phrases, talking about the body language in different situations. 4 people in one group, each group prepare a short ShuangHuang.  (about 1 minute)
