-John Dewey
Republic Act No. 10533 Section 5
Official Gazette, 2013
The DepED shall adhere to the following standards and
principles in developing the enhanced basic education
curriculum:
 (a) The curriculum shall be learner-centered, inclusive
and developmentally appropriate;
 (b) The curriculum shall be relevant, responsive and
research-based;
 (c) The curriculum shall be culture-sensitive;
 (d) The curriculum shall be contextualized and global;
materials shall devolve to the regional and division
education units.
(e) The curriculum shall use pedagogical
approaches that are constructivist, inquiry-
based, reflective, collaborative and integrative;
(f) The curriculum shall adhere to the principles
and framework of Mother Tongue-Based
Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) which starts
from where the learners are and from what they
already knew proceeding from the known to the
unknown; instructional materials and capable
teachers to implement the MTB-MLE curriculum
shall be available;
(g) The curriculum shall use the spiral
progression approach to ensure mastery of
knowledge and skills after each level; and
(h) The curriculum shall be flexible enough
to enable and allow schools to localize,
indigenize and enhance the same based on
their respective educational and social
contexts. The production and development
of locally produced teaching materials
shall be encouraged and approval of these
materials shall devolve to the regional and
division education units.
21st Century Skills defined
The term 21st century skills refers to a
broad set of knowledge, skills, work
habits, and character traits that are
believed—by educators, school reformers,
college professors, employers, and
others—to be critically important to
success in today’s world, particularly in
collegiate programs and contemporary
careers and workplaces. (edglossary.org,
2016)
Four (4) Essential Rules of 21st
Century Learning
TeachThought.com
1.Instruction should be student-
centered.
2.Education should be collaborative.
3.Learning should have context.
4.Schools should be integrated with
society.
1. Student-centered instruction
Education is no longer about listening to
the teacher talk and absorbing the
information
Different learning styles are encouraged.
Engage in many different types of hands-
on activities.
Learning is about discovery, not the
memorization of facts.
2. Education should be collaborative
Work together to discover information, piece it
together, and construct meaning
Dynamic collaboration
Recognize the different strengths and talents
each person can bring to a project, and change
roles depending on those attributes
Schools link with other educational institutions
3. Learning should have context
Teacher still provides guidance as to
the skills that need to be acquired
Application of the learning is
emphasized
A need to take a more general
approach and teach them the skills
that are useful in any situation
4. Schools should be integrated with
society
Model what a responsible citizen
is
Encourage students to join
committees or take part in
school projects, and by
occasionally helping the
community around
OUTPUT
Each group shall make a symbol
on how they view today’s
learners (to be presented)

USE OF ICT IN EDUCATION
In education, computers can be used to
enhance constructivist approaches in the
classroom by developing programs, computer-
assisted instruction, drills and tutorials.
Social networking sites can be used for forum
or group discussion where a lot of ideas are
being expressed by students.
There are also sites in which students can
create their own portfolio, scrap book, journals
