This document describes a lesson plan to help non-dance major undergraduate students better understand dance by introducing Laban Movement Analysis factors. The lesson plan has students physically experience different movement efforts like weight, space, time and flow. They then view contrasting dance videos and identify the efforts used. Finally, students write descriptions focusing on the movement qualities rather than superficial details. An abbreviated trial showed students engaged more with motion quality in their writing, though some writing simply repeated the instructor rather than showing a full grasp of the concepts.
