There are four levels of prevention: primordial, primary, secondary, and tertiary. Primordial prevention focuses on preventing risk factors from emerging in the population. Primary prevention acts prior to disease onset by removing causes. Secondary prevention halts disease progression by detecting and treating early. Tertiary prevention aims to limit impairments and disabilities. Strategies include mass approaches for whole populations or high-risk strategies targeting at-risk groups. Interventions include health promotion, specific protection, early diagnosis and treatment, disability limitation, and rehabilitation.
