Andrea shows a friend how to locate a book called "The Cave" at the library. She searches the library catalog at a computer near the help desk. The catalog provides the book's location, including the floor and call number. It also indicates the book is available. They take the stairs to the third floor where the book is located. Andrea writes down the call number and location from the catalog. By counting shelves, she is able to lead her friend directly to the copy of "The Cave".

- 1. Where do you go to find a book? -Andrea and I met at the Library . This library has almost every book you need. How do you locate a certain book? -Once in the library there are many ways you can locate your book. She then took me inside to start our search.
- 2. In this particular case I asked Andrea to show me how to locate the book The Cave. I read this book once before, but online. Where do we start? Andrea started by typing the name of the book on the library’s search catalog. There was a computer available for us next to the help desk. How do you know where to go? Once she typed the name of the book it automatically tells you if it is available for check out. Also give you information on where to locate it in the library.
- 3. Once she found the book online she checked where the book was located. This information was given and the numbers she looked for was the PS3545. This number tells where in the library it is located. In addition this catalog also tells you what floor to start on. As you can tell on the image to the right, in green letters you will see “Not checked out” meaning that it is available now and in stock.
- 4. We started in the first floor, and the book we are locating is in the third floor. So we took the stairs. Andrea is there multiple copies of this book? -At times there is multiple copies, if so that information is given in the catalog search. Is the third floor the only floor with this copy? -The book you are looking for will only be located in one place and that information is also given in the catalog. You rarely find multiple locations for the same book.
- 5. As we began our search Andrea wrote down the information given in the catalog. This information was very well need once we left the first floor and wondered through shelves and shelves of books. With the information given in the catalog we were able to find the exact shelf where our book is sitting. As she was walking down the isles I noticed she was counting down the rows of shelves. She was able to lead me to my book.
