“An Analysis of Trimble’s V10 Imaging Rover for Adding CityGML Level of Detail 3 Geometry to the
New Prime2 Spatial Data Storage Model”
ABSTRACT:
The development of a 3D building model to CityGML standard and Level of Detail 3 (LoD3)
using close range photogrammetry techniques is a complex task. The process begins with data
acquisition and ends with a fully textured photo-realistic representation of a building. There are
numerous image based modelling techniques that can generate visually rich models. However,
certain applications or methods are only suitable for visualisation purposes and lack the
accuracy to achieve a high level of detail. Furthermore, the achievement of accurate results can
be a long process and requires a considerable amount of knowledge of photogrammetric
techniques. Therefore, choosing the most appropriate technique is essential. This research
presents a method for generating a building model to CityGML LoD3 standard using panoramic
imagery captured with Trimble’s V10 Imaging Rover.
The aim of this dissertation is to develop a workflow to produce or enhance an existing building
model in Prime2 to CityGML LoD3 standard using the Trimble V10 Imaging Rover. This
research presents a new approach for generating accurate 3D models. It is divided into four key
sections, data acquisition, data processing, data visualisation and data integration and includes
a full workflow and an analysis of the different stages and steps involved.
The research method provided a fast and effective method to produce a 3D model resulting in a
rich geospatial deliverable. It had a high level of geometric accuracy whilst producing a high
quality photo realistic model. The approach adopted to integrate the model with existing Prime2
data was both easy to use and offered a high degree of accuracy.
From these results, it can be concluded that this study provides an easy method for adding
CityGML Level of Detail 3 geometry to the new Prime2 data storage model.
