Linux is a free and open-source operating system created by Linus Torvalds when he was a student. It follows the UNIX philosophy and is built from many GNU tools. People use Linux because it is free to obtain and modify, allows for multi-user access and multitasking, is stable due to its modular design, and is fast even when running many processes simultaneously.

Free it not means like you can get everything not paid, but free is : you can modify and redistribute again. – It’s multiuser Multiuser not always mean the same thing to different people, but the real meaning of a multiuser operating system is one that’s multiple people log in and run processes on it at the same time.
- 4. – It’s multitasking This allows the system to run more than one job in a same time. Not like older operating system such as MS-DOS allowed only one job to run at a time. – It’s stable Linux has excellent stability due to it’s design and modularity. – It’s fast Many users switching to Linux from Windows are surprised at how fast and responsive this system is, even with many processes running and with multiple Windows open.
