This case study describes how Transocean, the world's largest offshore drilling company, used open source software to enable their rig personnel to search Autodesk Buzzsaw's knowledgebase. They implemented a solution using Red Hat Linux, Apatar for data extraction, Google Mini for indexing, and Zenoss for server monitoring. This allowed rig workers to search for information from any computer using a familiar Google-like interface without having to repeatedly authenticate. The solution integrated data from Buzzsaw and provided a centralized way for Transocean employees to access necessary information.
