1. Unit 22: PROPOSAL (LO2 / P3)
SCRIPT TITLE:
Everyone’s happy at dawn
WHAT IS THE SCRIPT FOR?
This is a non-fiction horror film, made for Netflix.
BRIEF & WHAT YOU WILL PRODUCE
Netflix want to capitalise on the successes of films such as Bird Box and Bridgerton. Target
audience of both genders, and late teens to 30s. After the rise of #metoo and black lives matters
movements, the focus will be on a diverse cast. I have been asked to produce 5-10 minutes of the
script opening. The producers want a 15 rated film.
CONTENT
5 Kids go to Portsmouth Park amusement centre. They are having fun and decide to all go into the
largest scare maze in the UK. They go in in groups of 3 and 2, however all is not as it seems inside
the maze. Scare actors roam the maze, scaring the kids but one actor isn’t meant to be there.
There is a clown in the maze, whose only aim is to kill and terrorise the children. Two kids make it
out, however the rest sadly don’t make it.
GENRE
This will be a horror film, which will be displayed through reoccurring genre conventions such as,
Gore, Darkness and Isolation.
LANGUAGE TO BE USED & WHY
This film follows elaborate code, as no prior information is needed to watch said film. There will be
informal speaking, as swearing and prominent slang use is used throughout. The aim for film is to
entertain the audience. I am going to be using eerie language, some of which leave room for
interpretation to match the horror genre.
NARRATIVE STRUCTURE
My film will be presented in a linear style, with the whole story being told in chronological order. It
will be multi- stranded as it follows the different mini groups that are travelling in the maze and how
they either escape or unfortunately die.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

LOCATION & STYLE MOODBOARD
ANGLE OF ARTICLE
I will target my audience by using relatable ‘normal’ characters. No cool or extremely edgy
characters, all representative of the general population of people their age. I have also used a
theme park, which provides more relatability as most of my audience would have experienced
these mazes normally, without the threat of death. I show a slight bias to the youth as everyone of
that age and up has experienced that. The ethos of Netflix is to show diversity within the film,
without forcing it and allowing real world relationships to be shown on tv. I have a diverse group of
kids, but not anything irregular from what people see day to day. Damian Johnson (one of the
younger people of the group) is a black male, and there are 2 women in the group also. This

represents Netflix’s ethos as I have been able to show diversity naturally and unforced.+

TARGET AUDIENCE
My primary audience fits within the categories of 15–30-year-olds, with the use of gore
and violence which is not appropriate for any younger ages. The age of my target
audience limiting at 30 is due to the childish humor and conventions throughout the film. I
also branch my audience more broad groups that may not stereotypically enjoy horror
films as such. The inclusivity within race and gender in my characters. I have 2 woman
and a character of an ethnic background. This makes my film more admirable because
more audiences can relate and identify themselves within characters in the film.
