ELT Methodology – 5A
Prof: Carme Arbonés I Isabel Civera
Curs 2012 - 2013
WEEK 1 (1-5 / 10 / 12)
• We start the course with a lecture from Ricard García, editor of
Edu365 and Xtec/crea, two websites full of great resources for both
  teachers and students.

• Professor García has shown us a variety of tool we can use to
introduce TIC’s in our English classes. From crating a video with
subtitles using BombayTV or making a fantastic storybook with
storybird to the my newest discover: Glogster!

• All of these pages are going to be in my PLE. I find incredibly useful
any type of resource I can use to include different methodologies to
an English class, and these ones are pretty interesting.
WEEK 2 (8-12 / 10 / 2012)
• We have been talking about the content, the aims, the project and
  the assessment of the subject.

• I must say I’m a bit lost, because it seems to be a lot of work to do
and I don not have a clear idea about what I should do first.

• So I have decided to go though my “favourite” tags in Safari an I
find some old website quite interesting to add to my PLE.

• My two new additions are Shakespeare for kids and the Catalan site
Una ma de contes, where you can find a wide variety of stories for
children with text and video in English!
WEEK 3 (15-19 / 10 / 12)
• The topic of the week  Science!

• I have discovered a new world! Science in English (a possibility for
future CLIL’s) I have fallen in love with the amount of experiments I
  have found online!

• One in particular, at the discovery kids site. There is a section about
the programme The mithbusters and I decided that one day I’m
going to try the experiment about the reaction of Mentos and coke!

• One more site for my PLE!
WEEK 4 ( 22 – 26 / 10 / 12)
• Art! What an interesting subject! This week we have seen how to
  work with art an English!

• The idea of using paintings of famous artists to works something so
simple as colours or shapes it is a brilliant idea!

• I must say I am not an art person, but I love those book with
  fantastic illustrations!

• So, my addition to the PLE this week is Stories for children. Lots and
Lots of stories with fabulous illustrations to work with!
WEEK 5 (29 / 10 – 4 / 11 /12)
• MATHS!!! Some people tremble at the sound of this word….
• We should stop being afraid of maths!!

• As teachers we must encourage our kids to enjoy maths! So, in my
tireless search of useful site for my PLE, I have found IXL!

• An infinity of worksheets and online activities for all ages! Who said
that maths, English and TIC’s couldn't be fun?
WEEK 6 (5 – 9 / 11 / 2012)
• This week we have been talking about infant education. I should say
I was pretty lost about this.

• We have talk about routines, movement, songs and storytelling… I
have used some of the ideas at work, with my P5 English students!

• The routine of a song at the beginning and the end of the class was
a success! Going outside and play games? Score!

• To add to my PLE, this week I am going to put a site about rhymes
  and songs!
WEEK 7 (12 – 16 / 11 / 2012)
• To add to my PLE, this week I have some basic tools I think every
teacher should know how to use:

• Gmail!
• Edu365/crea
• Cirel

• These are some of the site I think have interesting information and
  resources for English teachers.
WEEK 8 (19 – 23 / 11 / 2012)
• Continuing with my search in useful site for teachers, I think it is
right to have something like prezi, that allow to make original
presentations (enough of boring power points!)

• I find also interesting two site to share videos, schooltube and
  teachertube.

• Share is a big part of a teacher jobs. We can learn so much about
  other teacher experiences!!
WEEK 9 (26 – 30 / 11/ 12)
• This week: Textbook analysis!

• Ok, so most of English book are similar! What does it say to us? We
need to find other type of activities to complement the typical book
  exercises!

• Sites like Super Simple learning or Abc teach can be an option. We
can find lots of flashcards and worksheets to complement our
  English books!
WEEK 10 (3 – 7 / 12 / 2012)
• This week I found two interesting site to add to my PLE.

• BrainPop: it is a science site, and has lots of videos about different
aspects of science! The only problem is that you have to be a
member to use most of the resources in the site!

• Go Animated and his brother Dommo Animated: I remember the
lecture about TIC’s, at the beginning of the semester. I realized I did
not put these to site on my PLE, and I had to fix it right away. What
can I say about these two? Just let your imagination run wild!
Week 11 (10 – 14 / 12 / 2012)
• When I though I could not find any interesting site for my PLE this
  week….

• I discover Wikipedia in simple English!! What can I say? Let’s be
honest, everyone knows that Wikipedia is not as serious as an
encyclopaedia, and it may contain some information in need for
  revision.

• But when someone wants to know something and asks St. Google,
he or she always always ends up in Wikipedia.

• So, a Wikipedia that children can (wisely) use and written in simple
English? It already has a spot on my symbaloo!
WEEK 12 (17 – 21 / 12 / 12)
• And with that we arrive to our last week! The moment has finally
arrived, when I look back, organise my ideas and decide whether or
not I have learnt something during this semester!

• I am going to think about it really hard during my holyday. I
collected some interesting sites all along the semester, some of
  them mentioned in this logbook.

• And I really think I will use some of them in the future (at least I
hope to use them if I can get a job once I finished this year…) so I’m
quite sure the reflection of this past semester it is going to be
  positive!

• My last link: TED talk’s!! I absolutely love them!
