This document discusses insect reactions to light and applications for pest management. It notes that many insects can see ultraviolet light and are attracted to light sources emitting UV radiation. Devices exploiting this behavior, like light traps and electric insect killers, have been developed for pest monitoring and control. Some diurnal insects are attracted to yellow light, so yellow traps and plates are used for surveys and control. Covering areas with UV-filtering film or using reflective materials can control pest approaches and damage. New LED light sources may further integrated pest management approaches utilizing insect phototaxis and circadian responses.
