About Grammar1.C
Grammar is the system of language
that describes how words are
combined and organized to make
meaning. It is not necessarily a fixed
set of rules.
Grammar includes the parts of
speech, their
uses, forms, functions, grammatical
structures and how they go together
to produce comprehensible language.
About Grammar1.C
Look at the following text. Can you identify the parts of
speech for the underlined words?
Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch
-- “The Jabberwocky” by Lewis Carrol
If you’re not familiar with this poem,
the words Jabberwock, shun, frumious
or Bandersnatch may seem odd.
However, if you were able to make
some sense of the verses, it was
because you relied on your
knowledge of grammar in order to
infer meaning and identify the parts
of speech. This is why it is important
that our learners acquire sufficient
knowledge about grammar and how
it works in language.
About Grammar1.C
Grammar indicates what parts of
speech are used to express
language and the order of those
parts.
It tells us:
What one expresses (uses)
How one expresses it (form)
About Grammar1.C
The use (or function) refers to the meaning that we want to
express in a sentence.
Wonder Woman
is the most awesome
Superhero of all!
The use or function of grammar in the above sentence is to
expresses the maximum degree of a quality.
About Grammar1.C
The form is the way the words occur in all its parts to create meaning.
Form: Subject + to be + the most + adjective + group
Wonder Woman is the most awesome Superhero of all!

About Grammar1.C
The grammatical structure is what we call the part of speech.

About Grammar1.C
Because language changes over
time, it is important for learners to
understand the use and form of
grammatical structures.
However, teaching just grammar is
not enough to learn a language. In
fact, teaching it to young learners, is
not useful at all.
Grammar should always be learned
within the context of language so
that communication is not
mechanical but flowing and
authentic.
