B. Morning routine was done with attendance, I assisted student to do it correctly as students are
still learning how to do their different jobs in the classroom, as well as assisting with lunch count.
Students pulled homework out and the teacher and I made sure they did it correctly and explained to
students that may have graphed word count wrong or had questions.
C. Every student had a copy of a book "We Camp". As a class, we read the book having the students
point to the words as we read out loud together. I walked around the class making sure students were
following along as they should. The teacher discussed text evidence and had student find examples
throughout the story.
D. I was able to teach phonics and blending to students on the whiteboard. I would write a letter on
the whiteboard and have the class say its sound when I pointed to it, when we got to the vowel we
would blend it together, then I would finish writing the word, then the class would say the word fast
out loud. I would call on a student and ask if they knew the definition and expanding when needed.

There are many advantages that a student who learns in a classroom with an interactive whiteboard
will experience. Students in the class enjoy learning while using the board because it increases their
enjoyment and motivation in the lesson. Students today have grown up with technology and enjoy
being a part of it, whether it is watching it or interacting with it. "Children of the 21st century have
been part of a multi–media world from birth, and as a result they are comfortable with such
technologies and this experience can be exploited in the learning environment." (Hall & Higgins,
2005, p. 106) Students are also more willing to participate in class when there is an interactive white
board. One reason for this is that students enjoy touching the board and manipulating objects. Most
students are familiar with technology and find some of the activities on the board similar to video
games that they are accustom to playing. Students who are at the board have the opportunity to
interact with concepts being taught and this interaction, can lead to classroom discussion. Students
want to be apart of what they are learning and feel that their thoughts are valued, one way for this to
happen is through open classroom discussion. When a student feels as if they have an opinion of

Children 's Early Learning Center
For my observation I was able to visit a local pre–school. The Children's Early Learning Center. The
preschool is located just a few miles from my home at 3135 S. Florida Ave. Lakeland, FL. This is a
private school that has just started a summer program for students getting ready to attend
kindergarten. The classroom consisted of 18 children 4–5 years old. They will all be 5 on or before
September 1st 2016. There were also two adults in the room the teacher as well as the assistant
teacher. The school has infants to 5 year olds with one infant room with 8 infants, two 1 year old
rooms with 8 children, two 2 year old rooms with 8 children, 3 year olds two rooms one with 7
children and one with 10, and the two VPK rooms of 18 children in each room. The school has 30
staff members it seemed consisted 1 teacher and two assistants in each room as well as assistants
that floated from room to room, as well as a nutritional staff, the director, and assistant director.
The Philosophy of this program is to encourage, enrich social skills, self–esteem, respectfulness, and
creativity. Families are encourage to attend the classroom and see what the children are learning.
The school also invites families to special events created through the year. The curriculum is
strongly focused on life skills, reading, and mathematics.

stories. These text types can include their original drawings, clip art and/or personal photos. The

Observation Of My Mentor Teacher's Math Lesson Plan
On September 25th, 2017, I observed my mentor teacher's math lesson plan. Since math is
scheduled from 12:00 to 1:05 in her classroom, this lesson was about 50 minutes to one hour long.
Being a first grade classroom with around 24 students in it, the Common Core math standard for this
lesson was 1.OA.B.4 – Understand subtraction as an unknown–addend problem. For example,
subtract 10 – 8 by finding the number that makes 10 when added to 8. Her learning object was Tell
put together with result unknown, add to with result unknown, and add to with change unknown
stories from equations. My mentor teacher did not have a student target for the lesson. However, I
believe that a student–friendly objective would be a great way to enhance the curriculum. It would

Math Lesson Reflection
Going into my math lesson, I was nervous. Not about the material because I love the subject at hand
but, I didn't really know the students in the way that I would've wanted to know them. I would've
felt more comfortable if I had worked with them all in math before this less. I knew their
mathematics levels because I have seen the worksheets that they have worked on in the previous
classes. I knew what two of them struggled in before teaching this lesson. What I was nervous about
was the fact that, I didn't know how they would act towards my teaching. I also was scared that my
material would be too tough for my students. When I first was getting ready for my lesson, I picked
out a topic that we have been working on during class. Then I started to look at the different
standards. Once I looked more into the topic at hand, I decided that I needed to make this lesson as
enjoyable as I could, especially if this was my first of many lessons with these particular students. I
decided to bring in some activities that I personally enjoyed when I was younger. With space that we
had in the smaller classroom, I decided to bring in manipulates into the mix with the portable

LESSON PLAN
CONTEXT
This lesson is designed for a small group of three first–grade, classified English language–learning
(ELL) students. The students are ages six– through eight–years–old and are in a first grade
classroom. They spend 90% of their time in the regular classroom, and the other 10% outside of the
classroom receiving instruction from the ESOL teacher. All three of these students are female, two
of which are Latino and the other of Arabic descent. Only one of the Latino girls was born outside of
the United States, and the other two students were U.S. born. They attend Andrew Jackson
Elementary School in South Philadelphia. The two Latino students have gone to Jackson from the
time they were in Kindergarten, while the Arabic student entered Jackson this year after the school
year had already begun. All three of these children are below grade level in all content areas,
especially literacy. In terms of this lesson, math is the content area being addressed. The concepts of
less than, greater than, and equal to will be taught. Prior to this lesson, the students have learned

Coming Into The Math Activity Essay
Coming into the math activity, I was expecting the activity to go smoothly. I figured the students
would be able to solve multiplication problems easily and would need very little, if any help. I
figured they would be able to follow instructions. That's exactly what happened for the third graders,
but for the younger ones we had to switch to addition instead of multiplication. Overall, it was a
very pleasant activity and it taught me a lot about how children today are learning when it comes to
mathematics. Kids Count threw us a big curveball when they told us we wouldn't be getting only
third graders because after all, our activity was designed for third graders. We decided to do addition
for younger students instead. For one group, we had to implement that. For another group, we had
all third graders and one second grader. She didn't know multiplication so I had to explain to her that
multiplication is adding up numbers. For a problem like 11x5, we added 11x5 times to get 55. I
wanted her to write out the answer and work it out herself with the whiteboard but I realized I
couldn't do that– the third graders were getting antsy and were shouting out the answer when they
knew they weren't supposed to because they were tired of waiting. I knew then I had to I had to
write it out while she did the math either in her head or on her finger and make it easy for her. I
would say what's 11+11, she'd say 21 and I would say add another 11 and so on until we got the

Because resources are by definition scarce, it is important for educators in general and mathematics
teachers in particular to use the most effective teaching tools that are available. Many young people
entering the classroom for the first time today bring with them a valuable set of information
technology skills that can be used to good effect in improving academic outcomes. Likewise,
computer–savvy older students want and expect to find technological solutions in their classrooms.
One such solution that has been growing in popularity is the whiteboard, an interactive classroom
presentation system that allows teachers and students to interact in new ways that can improve
mathematics learning and facilitate classroom administration. To gain some fresh insights into the
ways that whiteboards can be used by mathematics teachers to improve academic outcomes, this
paper provides a review of the relevant peer–reviewed and scholarly literature, followed by a
summary of the research and important findings in the conclusion.
Review and Discussion Although mathematics has not changed, the manner in which it is taught has
changed in substantive ways in recent years that are far removed from rote memory drills and

4 weeks, 6 classroom observations, 10 teaching practices, 2 conversation facilitations, 1 one v. one
private teaching session, multiple homework assignments, and numerous lesson plans later – all
totaling to 140+ hours of hard work – and here I am at the finish. This is experience was demanding
and challenging to say the least, in a positive way. I learned so much and experienced the EFL
teaching world first–hand. I played on my strengths as an educator and worked through my

drop; hide and reveal; colour, shading and highlighting; multimedia visualisation; multimedia

1.1 Project Summary
The goal of this project is to help advance the education process of elementary school students. A lot
of schools have adapted to the use of interactive white boards (IWBs). And while these IWBs do a
good job bringing interactivity to the classroom, our product, the KiD–35 takes interactivity to the
next level! The KiD–35 is a state of the art interactive desk that every student will be able to use
during class. The teacher of the class controls the desk's software so that the students will be focused

The transition for teachers is also made quite easily by introductory demos provided with the desks
when they are delivered. If a teacher can operate a smart phone, they will be able to use the KiD–35.
1.3 Project Analysis
We believe IWB's were a very good step in interactive education. However, they have many flaws
that the KiD–35 will approve upon.
Traditional IWB's have need the child to get out of their seat in class to interact with the board, not
every student gets the some amount of interaction with the board. (Deubel, 2010)
Many teachers using the IWB's do not change the method in which they use the board. So if the
assignments seem repetitive, students lose interest.
In our target market, many traditional IWB's are too large for elementary school students to use.

Some children are just plain shy and do not want to come in front of the class to work in front of
their classmates. (Interactive White Board, n.d.)
Here is how the KiD–35 counteracts the flaws of the IWB's:
The KiD–35 will be accessible by every child in the class; all of the students receive the same
amount of interaction time with the desks.
Teachers will have access to thousands of applications to always keep the learning environment
fresh.
The KiD–35's are specifically designed for our target demographic, which makes them much more
usable than larger IWB's.
The ability to have a message like "Great Job!" or "Good Work" after a correct answer is given can

Integrating Technology into Classrooms
Technology is an ever changing feature in education. In order for technology to be effective there
are many things that need to coordinate together. I will discuss some the major topics of integrating
technology into classrooms. I will also have some insight into how schools have changed over the
years and what I see now in the classroom.
In my three years of teaching I have already seen many changes to the technology that we use. I
think that traditional media could be defined a couple different ways, whether we talk about the very
beginnings of technology to technology that was used five years ago, either could be considered
traditional. Newspapers, radios, and television could be considered as the first medias that could
connect students to people and happenings outside of the classroom. These connections are what I
think stimulate students' minds.
The internet came along in the early 90's and really revolutionized students' abilities to connect with
people outside of the classroom. (Graber, 2012). I first remember getting Facebook towards the end
of high school and that has sparked the age of social media. Now students can reach information,
blogs, and social media from their phones! I think the role of traditional media has encouraged
students' ability to learn from multiple mediums outside of the classroom. Not everything has been
positive from technology, but because of it students have all the opportunities they could ask for to
learn.
