Three witches tell Macbeth he will be Thane of Cawdor then King of Scotland. After Duncan names Macbeth Thane of Cawdor, Macbeth and his wife Lady Macbeth plot to murder King Duncan. They kill Duncan at Macbeth's castle. Macbeth then has Banquo and his family killed to eliminate threats to his power. Macbeth is eventually killed in battle after Malcolm, Macduff and others plot to overthrow him.

- 8. Lady Macbeth persuades Macbeth to go ahead with the murder
- 10. Malcolm and Donalbain escape to England and Ireland
- 11. Macbeth is crowned King of Scotland
- 12. Macbeth does not trust Banquo. He has him murdered.
- 13. Macbeth has a feast. Banquo’s ghost appears to him.
- 14. Macbeth revisits the witches. He sees strange apparitions.
- 15. Macduff’s wife and children are killed by order of Macbeth.
- 16. Malcolm, Macduff and others plot to kill Macbeth.
- 17. Lady Macbeth becomes mad. She dies.
- 18. The castle is attacked and Macbeth is killed.
- 19. Malcolm is proclaimed king.
