Public libraries in NSW are operated by local governments. There are 368 public libraries and 22 mobile libraries that served over 36 million visits last year. As web 2.0 tools become more prevalent, libraries are using these tools to assist patrons, deliver services online through platforms like blogs and Flickr, and act as "life coaches for the digital age" by helping patrons use tools like social media, egovernment services, and tutorials for seniors. The 2,300 public library workers in NSW are building skills in web 2.0 and using tools like wikis, Twitter, blogs and Flickr to provide professional development, services, knowledge sharing, and interact with patrons.
