Public services refer to services provided by the government to citizens, either directly through the public sector or by financing private provision. Some key services include education, health, transportation and infrastructure. Governments have options for how to deliver these services, including directly providing them, using private sector alternatives like contracting or vouchers, or mixed delivery systems. In Pakistan specifically, services are delivered through federal, provincial and local governments as well as private sector and non-profit organizations. Devolution of power to local authorities aims to improve effective and efficient service delivery. However, the current government has failed to effectively address power shortages plaguing the country.
