1. Think of someone at work (a coworker, mentor, former supervisor) who really brought out the best in you.
Imagine that person in action and think of four or five adjectives that describe exactly what he or she did —
his or her behaviors, abilities, skills, and style.

OURCULTUREOFEMOTIONS
ACTIVITY
There is a definite culture of emotions in all organizations, and people generally figure out what the rules are.
The rules of emotions are mostly unspoken, and there is pressure to conform to these rules. There are usually
consequences if these rules are violated.
In each box below, briefly describe how emotions are dealt with at your workplace.
If you could re-write the rules, what would they be?

COMMIT TO PRACTICING
To begin your EQ development journey, decide what you need to work on and who can support you along the
way. Create your EQ Action Plan by doing the following for each of the four core EQ skills.
1. Fill in three strategies for each EQ skill and which month you will practice the strategy.
2. Write in the name of someone who is gifted in each EQ skill.
3. Use the circles to rank which EQ skill you’ll work on first, second, third, and fourth.
GET STARTED, ONE STRATEGY AT A TIME
Research shows that practicing one skill and one strategy at a time works best. When you get a moment, transfer
this EQ Action Plan to your calendar system, assigning one strategy to each month of the year (preferably write
the strategy on the first day of each month).
KEEP AT IT WITH YOUR MENTOR
Your mentor should be someone you can count on to give you honest advice, who cares about your development, and
who you can access repeatedly. Make the time to reach out to your mentor to discuss your successes and struggles.
MEASURE YOUR PROGRESS
Schedule your EmotionalIntelligenceAppraisal® retest about 12 months from today to discover how far you’ve come.

GET STARTED, ONE STRATEGY AT A TIME Research shows that practicing one skill and one strategy at a time works best. When you get a moment, transfer this EQ Action Plan to your calendar system, assigning one strategy to each month of the year (preferably write the strategy on the first day of each month). KEEP AT IT WITH YOUR MENTOR Your mentor should be someone you can count on to give you honest advice, who cares about your development, and who you can access repeatedly. Make the time to reach out to your mentor to discuss your successes and struggles.
