Mathematics is the study of topics such as quantity, structure, space, and change. The word originates from the Greek word meaning learning or knowledge. While the earliest uses of mathematics were in trading and construction by ancient Babylonians, Egyptians and Greeks, it has since developed into a wide-ranging discipline studied and advanced by famous mathematicians from Pythagoras to Euclid to al-Khwārizmī. Views of mathematics emphasize it as both the language of the universe expressed through geometric shapes and figures, as well as a subject that can only be truly learned through active practice and problem solving.

Origin • The word “mathematics” is deriven from the greek “máthēma” , which means learning , study or knowledge. • In Latin, and in English until around 1700, the term mathematics more commonly meant "astrology" (or sometimes "astronomy") rather than "mathematics“. Then, in 1800ce they realize that it is mistranslated.

He is the inventer of algebra. • Euclid is a greek mathematician who is known as the “father of geometry”.

It is written in mathematical language, and the letters are triangles, circles and other geometrical figures. • Paul halmos state that “the only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics”.
