● What do you expect to take home
from this workshop?
What's wrong?
Maximizing the impact of your work by implementing open research practices
Average journal price in Chemistry:
$5,950
Average journal price per article
$45
●40% of researchers claim
they don't have access to
the literature they need
●60.8% of researchers do
not self-archive their work
even when it is free and in
keeping with journal policy.
●Journal prices increase
around 4-5% per year

How to make your already
published research Open
Self-archive your research
● Most publishers allow you to publicly share the
accepted or submitted version of your paper in a
repository, where it can be easily discovered by all!
● Check https://sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/ or your publisher
agreement to determine what you are allowed to post
and where.

Self-archive your research
● Find the version of your article you are allowed to
archive.
● If you are unsure about the differences between
preprints (submitted versions), postprints (accepted
versions), and publisher's PDF, check
https://openaccessbutton.org/versions-explained .
submitted and
accepted versions
typically look like an
essay and do not have
the publisher logos or
formatting.
Self-archive your research
● Deposit your research in a repository
○ Your institutional repository
○ Online repositories
● Contact your librarian if you have any doubts.
● If you are not enrolled at an institution, make your
paper available through Open Access Button and
we'll help you with the process.
