- 2. ...to express myself. Sometime I write poetry, sometimes I write prose, mostly I communicate with my colleagues and friends using the phone, e-mail or letters. But I know that some of my friends and colleagues do more...!!?? I’m not sure, but they upload videos, they share photographs, they post status messages, and somehow they even seem to make more friends and business contacts as they do that. I’ve seen their personalities and confidence change as they have been expressing themselves in a better way. They smile more too! I HAVE A NEED... - 3. I HAVE A NEED... ...to make friends. I have 2 friends from school, 8 from high school, 32 from business school and I thought I had a great friends circle!! Until my boss at work shared that she had 432 friends on Facebook and 200 contacts on Linkedin, with whom he was constantly in touch and heard from on a regular basis. Sigh, he must just be plain lucky. That was the first time I heard of Facebook and Linkedin. So what I said, just another expensive gizmo or overrated fad on the internet. I was obviously still proud of the number of friends that I had. I decided to make a phone call to some of my best friends that evening. - 4. I HAVE A NEED... ...to know interesting people. We had this manager at work who would brag about having some well known senior executives as his contact, I joked to him one day that maybe he should join the sales department. And he introduced me to Linkedin and Twitter and said, “Dolly you have no idea how important your relationships are in life. Social or corporate, didn’t you always want to grow as a person, learn new things and have a great career? If you have a network of interesting people, it makes life and business that much easier.” Today as social media has more and more become part of my life, I cant but agree!! - 5. I HAVE A NEED... ...to make the most of available technology. I work as the vice president of marketing at a large multinational. One day all the leaders were invited to a corporate training session on social media. Little did I know that we were going to learn about some of the things that my high school son used to talk about. Suddenly unrelated things such as web 2.0, social network analysis, corporate social networking, economic trends and technology and their applications in our life and business became clear to our team. No more were we a old economy organization! And that evening I returned home to proudly tell my son that his father was now proficient at using social media on the internet and whether he could please open a Facebook account for him! - 6. I DEMAND ACCESS TO MY FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES... ...when I decide to reach out to them. So many times its happened that I want to share a photograph, a video or some news with my friends and hope to hear about their reaction, and I find a phone call, the courier service, even e-mail, extremely ineffective. Its too time consuming, expensive and very frustrating at times, when I don’t have the correct address, phone number, e-mail i.d or office name. I want all my communication and friends in one place and I want it completely integrated… Last week I attended MAXXCONNECT by The Starworks Leadership Center and Network and by Coach Shankar Nabar and within a week, I’m connected to most of my friends, relatives, family friends, business contact, colleagues at work, even acquaintances and future contacts. Guess what, I even made some new friends and contacts. And I can reach out to all of them by just a click!! - 7. I WILL LEARN TO USE FACEBOOK, LINKEDIN, TWITTER, BLOGGING... ...the way its designed to be used. I distrust technology, I’m uncomfortable with the internet and a keypad with so many keys is a definite turn-off!! But I trust the simplicity of the Social Media Applications and will strive to make the most of them in my life. By doing so I know, no, I’m sure, I will fulfill my dreams of a great life, and fast career and business growth. - 8. MY PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT... ...surprisingly now depends on Social Media. I WILL CONNECT WITH THE STARWORKS LEADERSHIP CENTER AND NETWORK (GOA, INDIA) AND WITH COACH SHANKAR NABAR… … and attend the celebration of Social Media MAXXCONNECT, to help me have NEAR – PERFECT COORDINATES AT ALL TIMES FOR EVERYONE!
