This assignment linksto Barcelona Principle 4 (conduct both qualitative and quantitative analysis).
Your Task
Create a media list for your assigned company containing a minimum of 35 news organizations. This media list should
focus on news media companies and reporters that report on the company, its competitors or the industry on a regular
basis.

Media List Content Requirements
The media list must be constructed in Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel and organized by vertical category:
 Broadcast: Provide a minimum of 10 sources with
at least one representing each of these: radio, TV,
podcast and YouTube.
 Business:5 required.
 Consumer & Lifestyle:Provide a minimum of 10
sources with at least four targeting diverse
audiences.
 Industry Trade Press:5 required.
 Hometown:5 required.
For each news media outlet, you need to provide:
 Name of the news media company
 Hyperlink to its home page and/or the relevant news section, if applicable
 Name of reporter or editor
 Two methods for contacting that reporter (i.e. email, phone number, social media handle)
 The title of one relevant news story/podcast/news program clearly showing this is an appropriate news outlet and
writer:
o Hyperlink the title to the original story.
o Note: the broadcast category may be challenging to connect to a specific news program. But, try to make
that happen for each radio or TV element. You should have no problem hyperlinking to a specific Podcast
episode.
 For broadcast and consumer/lifestyle include approach designation for each outlet:
o Broadcast:radio, TV, podcast, YouTube
o Consumer/lifestyle: general vs. diverse
Notes:
 There cannot be any repeats anywhere in the media list: no repeats of journalists, news organizations,
publications, story samples, etc.
 The media list must be organized by vertical category.
 You’re welcome to include freelancers,bloggers, etc.

Media List Building Tools
You’ll need to use a combination of tools to create a solid media list. We’ll use:
 Meltwater  Company owned media
 Google searches  Social media
 Accessing content of specific news outlets
Integrate Branding
Think about visual look and feel: be sure to integrate the company’s logo and appropriate color scheme to your
spreadsheet. Make the media list look visually attractive.
Grading Insight: 60 points
You will be evaluated in the following areas:
 50 points (10 points per Vertical Category): Completeness of content that is supported by credible industry
sources; assigning each news outlet to the appropriate vertical category.
 10 points: Mechanics & Layout:
o Spelling, grammar, punctuation, AP Style, etc.
o Working hyperlinks
o The overall look and feelof the document: does it have a layout that is easy to move through and visually
pleasing.
