Overview What is Metacognition? Why is it a valuable tool in effective learning? What are the three steps within Metacognition? What are some strategies in developing  Metacognition?
What is Metacognition? Metacognition is simply thinking about thinking or learning how we learn.  It is considered to be a higher level of thinking (Myers & Paris, 1978).  (More to follow on all information within each slide.)  (These are my examples so we can decide exactly where we would like to go with it.)
Why is it a valuable tool in learning? Metacognition is the “first step and the key to success in applying appropriate strategies effectively”
What are the three steps in  Metacognition? Start with an awareness of what you know and do not know. Identify strategies that help you learn more effectively. Focus on how effective those strategies are and refine them.
What are some strategies to develop Metacognition Motivation- Acquisition- Retention- Performance-
