METHODS OF DISTRIBUTIONWHERE MIGHT THE CONSUMER
WATCH YOUR TRAILER/FILM?
Social networking sites
YouTubeYouTube is very a very popular source for film
clips, trailers and also adverts. It is known to be
used by more of the younger generations which will
be some of my target audience. Advertisements are
played before a clip is shown (which a viewer has to
watch) which is a great way of promoting new
movies or products. The more views a video gets
the more popular a video comes (passed from word
of mouth and even sharing on other social media
sites). This will benefit my production as it will create
a bigger fan base and success rating on the first
viewing of my film alongside letting the viewers
know more about the film storyline, characters and
dates.

Facebook and twitterBoth of these sites are extremely successful with not
only the younger generation now but the old. With
tweets and status’ (personal opinions or information)
it will be an excellent way of putting across
information to a wide audience. Including twitter
Hash tag ‘trends’ and Facebook ‘likes’ to further
spread my information. Creating an account of both
of these to spread
information, gossip, interviews, pictures and short
trailers will create a pre audience to my production
and get varies ages, genders and ethnicities excited
about my film.

Television


Most, if not all, people watch at least 10 minutes
of television everyday which is why this is a
perfect way of promoting films and other new
products. However advertising a trailer on the
television can be proven difficult as I need to
make sure my trailer is on an appropriate channel
to my target audience for example channel 4
(where younger and older generations watch) to
ensure I am grasping everyone in my target
audience. Timing has to be taken into
consideration also as my film is a horror my trailer
will have to be broadcasted after the watershed at
around 11pm when most of the older generation
and some younger teens will be awake to watch.
Cinema


Advertisements in the cinema are another
good way of promotion. There are around 20
minutes of adverts before every film which is a
great way of putting my film in the interest of
my target audience. Distributing to cinemas
before is an easy way to get the production
well known and creates a fan base prior to the
release with a great atmosphere.
Radio


This isn’t a popularly known way of distributing
a film to the public however is very effective as
well as unique. However this can only work if
the production company have a script for the
trailer as the whole thing will need to be audio
while still engaging and giving the audience an
idea of the plot. The reason the radio is so
effective is that when driving people listen to
the radio (even if it is just to work). The great
thing about a radio advert is that it can grab
the attention of pre audience before the film
trailer has been released.
