In what ways does your media product us, develop or challenge forms of conventions of real media? - How does your media product represent particular social groups? What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? who would be the audience for your media product? How did you attract/address your audience? What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product. What kind of media institutions might distribute your media product and why Do a plan
Wrote an email to Anthony Aka Chuck Saying “Tomorrow don’t forget to come to school wearing that trendy top your have on Facebook that I said to bring to school so I can take a picture for my media magazine cheers Anthony” Actual Email by me. I also sketched the front page of what I wanted the front page to look like, in addition to this I did a mind map of what I wanted the magazine to be called so it fitted the RnB style. I did this by doing another mind map of different type of magazine genres conventions that’s where I decided to do a RnB magazine. In addition completing the treatment so I knew what I had to place in my magazine to meet the codes and conventions of what I needed to place in the magazine of other RnB magazine genres.
Masthead/Titles at top of page and large masthead at top immediately suggests the genre of the magazine. Consistency of only 3 colours used so there is not to much colours and audience doesn’t get overwhelmed with colour. Lead/Cover Story to show what the main story in the magazine is Sell Lines to make audience buy magazine because of variety of gossip in magazine Main image/Focal Point In centre to grab audience attention Bar Code to buy magazine and to keep track on how many magazines have been issued Freebies a further reason for audience to by magazine Secondary Images (vary) to show other articles inside magazine Issue Number for the issue the magazine is and how much magazines have been issued
My media product develops the form of conventions of a real media product because I used the typical codes and conventions that I found from other magazines ,when I did my research and used these typical conventions in my magazine. Such as price, barcode, key image in centre and title block on top and clear to for audience to see. I also used a suitable price of £3.95. Because most RnB magazines are usually that price because of the variety of gossip inside the magazine also from my questionnaires I had to find a suitable price to fit my magazine and that price seemed suitable from trends I saw from other music magazine trends. Another developed convention is that I put my model in the centre of the page and made him dress fresh and original to link in with the fresh magazine masthead yet gave a street look facial expression so he meets the target audience of a typical RnB magazine ,in addition I made him take up the whole page so the audience knows that Chuck is the main person in the magazine so the audiences focus on him. However there where some challenges made to challenge the forms and conventions of real media products by the use of pink in a male RnB magazine in the front cover but I felt this was suitable because my model I wanted him to be original which linked in with my main article about Chuck.
The social groups that are represented are the teenagers and people in there early 20s with a fresh and original attitude and personal yet at the same time street to. Who enjoy RnB/Rap music, this is seen by the facial expression on Chuck where he seems to have a determined confident facial expression, but at the same time subverts the stereotypical black stereotype of “hoodies” because of the shirt he is wearing to show his originality which is what fresh magazine is all about which is enforced by Fresh magazines slogan “keep it fresh”; which has a play on words from the phrase “keep it real” to target the specific audience and the chain to show it is in touch with street culture because he came from Brooklyn a notorious poverty driven place which is ethnically diverse place. “Keep it fresh” also is fresh magazines slogan to make the audience stay with fresh to get the no1 on info on RnB and stay with us and go to no other magazine for RnB gossip. Keep it fresh always means fresh magazine is always fresh and vibrant with original artist and has all the new gossip. Exactly what I wanted the magazine to offer to the audience. How does your media product represent particular social groups
A media institution to distribute my media product would be IPC Publishing. IPC's diverse print and digital portfolio offers something for everyone. And they are the UK's leading consumer magazine publisher with approximately 90 brands and selling 350 million magazines every year and my magazine is being sold in the UK so this would be a good media institution to use. I also would offer my magazine as an internet form of magazine to target the online up to date audience by publishing on online version of my magazine to target a mass audience with my magazine.
The audience for my magazine would be afro Caribbean people in the late teens and upwards from 16-25 so that they can relate to the artist in the magazines because most RnB artist are of that origin so they target the people that origin so the can relate to this. Also the audience would be people who enjoy rap/RnB no matter the origin just people who like that style of music and want to hear more about the magazine. And in terms of gender the audience for my magazine is both male and females in the 16-25 age category, because its created for both genders which is why in the front cover I mentioned a male artist and a female artist and pages for females such as gossip pagesto appeal to both genders.
I attracted my audience by the masthead being bold and red to stand out so that the audience can see the name of the magazine instantly, and to further make the magazine stand out I used a white outline to make it stand out further. Another method to attract the audience was to have a clear and clean large image to take up the magazine front cover so they can see the artist in full effect and from the artist they can see the genre of the magazine from the picture. Moreover I used bright colours such as pink, green, and white to again grab the audiences attention and to make the make fresh and vibrant to tie in with the magazines name of fresh and by this name I wanted the magazines to be alive and eye catching as soon as the reader saw it. I also used sell lines on the side to show the reader the variety of gossip inside the magazine to show the vast amount inside and the money there spending is worth it because of the detail inside. I also used the editorial note to entice my audience about this issue in my editorial note I stressed how exclusive this issue is brought the best to the audience and in the contents page to attract my audience because I also attracted the audience by putting words like sex in red and in bold to sell my product (sex sells) red connotes love and romance. Furthermore I put the page numbers in bold so the audience can see right where there favorite part in the magazine is so they can get right to it. Lastly I used the main article to attract the audience by putting additional images of my artist as a sense of eye candy to audience also the mode of address was informal to appeal to that street culture of my target audience and the RnB culture.
Props Used To attract audience I used new era cap to enforce the street feel I used the gold chain “bling” to enforce the wealth of the artist and to attract my audience, also it is convention of RnB magazines
I have learnt a variety of things about technologies from the process of constructing this product because I believe I have a successfully constructed a music magazine. I have only used Adobe Photoshop before to complete a advert for another media project and I over the time I have learnt to crop pictures correctly and how to lasso or magnetic lasso to cut out original images correctly I have also learned how to use the layers of Photoshop correctly to and have become familiar with the Photoshop tools where as I wasn’t so familiar before I started the projects the first time round. I was also became familiar with excel (to control the deadlines), PowerPoint (for textual analysis etc.), and finally the internet to make sure my magazine name was original and the internet was a useful tool check out other magazines of my genre so I knew the conventions that I need to put in my magazine to meet the target audience. Another useful tool was making sure I back my work up on USB to make sure that I didn’t loose my work other wise my effort would be lost. Finally I used a professional high pixel camera to make sure my picture quality was good and there so no pixel I also took the picture I a bright surrounding to again make sure it was clear to reduce pixilation so I could achieve high marks. Because with other cameras the images weren't clear enough and didn’t look professional. I also learnt that Adobe Photoshop offer producers a high level of flexibility and creativity so I could manipulate images of my models to suit the magazine such as smooth over blemishes using the clone stamp tool to make images clear more clearer also using the magic wand tool I was able to delete specific parts of my model cut out that had parts I didn’t want on the front page from when I cut and copied and pasted my original image to the front page. Another thing I have learnt about Photoshop is adobe Photoshop allows you to recreate your paper design in a relatively quick amount of time. And the more I practiced with the equipment available the more familiar I became with equipment and could do things the lot more quicker giving a professional look to my work.
From my preliminary task I have learnt that I need to use a quality camera because in the preliminary task there were some pixilation which made my school magazine look cheap and not eye catching. I also learned how to make the Masthead eye catching so the audience see’s it identifies the name and that the audience can relate to it. Furthermore I learnt the importance of typography and colour of the font so it look correct on the front cover and looks like its suppose to be there and fits in and not stand out in the right way to make sure its suitable for the magazine type.
