8. The File Tab
Allows you to open a saved presentation, start
a new one, save, save as, print and more
• Use the File tab to do all of your
housekeeping work
• Always save presentations frequently
o Microsoft's recover feature doesn't always work
properly
10. Creating a new presentation
Use the File tab to create a new presentation
•When Powerpoint starts up, a blank
presentation will be shown
o You can use this blank presentation or access other
options under the File tab

12. The Home tab
Home tab is your main screen
•Allows you to
o add new slides
o change slide layouts
o change fonts, font colors, add bold/underlined/italics
o insert bullets
If you have trouble finding a button or option (like
how to bold text), always go back to the Home tab
first to see if the option is there
14. Inserting Elements
Elements can include:
•Images/clip art
•Tables and charts
•Video and audio clips
•WordArt
•Links
Elements add to a presentation and keep your
slides from being dull
16. Slide Design
The Slide Design tab gives you plenty of
options to give your presentation a theme
• Themes gives presentations color and styling
• Themes also preset each slide's design and
layout, along with font options and colors
o These can be changed if you don't like the theme's
choices
• This tab also lets you adjust margins and
slide orientation
18. Transitions and Animations
• Transitions: how slides appear on the
screen
• Animations: how text, graphics, etc.
appear on each slide
• Transitions and animations can give your
presentation a polished look, but they can
also be a distraction
20. Managing Your Slideshow
The Slideshow tab gives you lots of options on
the delivery of your show.
• View full slideshow before presenting it
o Allows you to catch mistakes/mistimings
o Gives you the chance to view the show as an
audience member
