Digital Literacy
Digital literacy is the effective use of information we get from the
internet.One should be able to evaluate and integrate the information
he/she gets from the computer.
Digital literate person is the one who can use digital tools and
sources on behalf of himself/herself effectively.
How to Build Digital Literacy
To build digital literacy, people should search information deeply and
should not buy into everything they see on the digital platform.People
should use the digital tools effectively.They also should think twice before
writing about something in terms of communicating in a proper way.
E-Safety
E-safety means the safety when using the internet.
We can ensure e-safety with
-Being aware of what we do and what others do on the cyber world in terms
of sharing our ideas
-Building up a complex password,
-Checking up people following us in our social media accounts
-Activating the child filter
By using Google Docs, you can form texts and paragraphs using smart
tools.You can choose any of the article types as you wish.You can also add
pictures, sketches and charts.Moreover, you do not need a software to use
it and it is free to use.So, you can work with your friends easily.Finally,
when you finished your work, you do not need to save it because it is saved
automatically by Google Docs.
By using Google Slides, you can create slides, edit them, work on them
collaboratively with your friends and can prepare presentations.It is free to
use and you can use Google Slides wherever you are.
By using Google Forms, you can gather and organize any information
you want.You can also create surveys, tests and conduct your event
records.It is free to use as Google Docs and Google Slides and you can work
with your friends collaboratively.
Digital Storytelling
Digital storytelling is a way to use digital tools to create stories.You can
demonstrate your stories in an interactive way and you can draw your
students’ attention & make them participate in lesson.
By using Tellagami, you can create and share animated videos.
Storybird
By using Storybird, you can create stories with illustrated pictures with
your students and courage them to write their own stories.Moreover, via
this application your students will write better and read more.
Multimedia Design Principles
1-Multimedia Principle
With both words and pictures, people are able to understand well when
compared to understanding only with words.
2-Coherence Principle
People learn better when unnecessary words and information are excluded.
3-Voice Principle
People learn better when spoken in a standard accent than spoken in a
machine or in a foreign accent.
4-Segmenting Principle
Students learn better when a multimedia lesson is presented in
segments(paces).
5-Redundancy Principle
People have a limited working memory, so an information should not be
given in different forms.
Arounder allows you to travel a place no matter how far it is.Choosing
one of the cities around the world, you can start your journey and get
information about it.You can see cities in multiple perspectives.As a
teacher, one can widen his/her students’ perspectives and let them know
about a place they are not able to go in a lecture.
Gamification and Game Based Learning
Gamification is the use of games in a non-game field to motivate and
courage the students to solve problems.
Game Based Learning is the use of games to teach students.
Kahoot is an easy application to apply and prepare.The exams that
teachers prepare on Kahoot is applied via a code in classrooms.The
students enter the code on their computers and participate in this
entertaining competition.
Why Kahoot?
-Students enter Kahoot with the names they chose and they love it
-There is a time limit to answer the questions and it causes excitement.
-There is rivalry
-Lecture is combined with game
-It is easy to use
Plickers is an application that teachers can use easily.The classes are
formed on Plickers and the questions are uploaded to the platform.Plickers
create different QR codes for students and these codes are handed out to
students.The students are asked to raise their papers according to the
choice they made.Finally, the teacher scan the papers via a smartphone and
checks out who made it wrong or right.
Why Plickers?
-Draws the attention of students who do not like written exams
-Lecture is combined with game
-It is easy to use
Socrative is an application that allows you to test your students
whenever or wherever you are.You can create exams, surveys, exit
tickets(you ask questions to students for letting them go out) or group
exams using Socrative.
Why Socrative?
-It allows teachers to apply their exams no matter where they are
-Every student answer the questions according to their speed of thinking
-It is easy to use
