What is the training benchmark?
The purpose of the training benchmark
requirements requires employers to
demonstrate they are investing in training for
Australian employees before they are
permitted to sponsor overseas workers.
The difference between
benchmark A and B
A. Employers pay 2 % of payroll (incurred in
the last 12 months) expenditure to an
industry training fund related to the
employer’s business.
B. Employers spend 1 % of payroll (incurred in
the last 12 months) on training their
Australian citizen or permanent resident
employees.
How is payroll defined?
• “Amount of Money an employer pays in
wages to their employees in a 12 month
period”
• Contracts & Subcontractors?

Editor's Notes

  • #5: If trading less than 12 months, then must submit an “auditable plan”to meet the training benchmarks…. Ie a plan that clearly outlines how they intend to meet the benchmarks for the next 12 months.Info includes, type duration and cost of training
  • #6: The Australian Government is encouraging all employers to invest in training for Australian workers. Whilst immigration plays a role in addressing short term skill and labour shortages, the government is committed to training Australians to address longer term skill and labour shortages.  There are two options…. Training Benchmark A or Training Benchmark B…. You must do at a minimum one.
  • #7: It includes the 12 months prior to application and any 12 month period during successful sponsorship.
  • #8: This quote is straight from the immigration website:It includes the 12 months prior to application and any 12 month period during successful sponsorship.Contractors and subcontracts depends on the payroll tax in that particulor state.
  • #10: Through Upskilled, organisations can meet the interim training benchmark requirements via Training Benchmark B. Training Benchmark B requires recent expenditure by the business, to the equivalent of, at least 1% of payroll, in the provision of training to employees of the business, and a commitment to maintain that expenditure over the life of the sponsorship.
