  • #5: In 2005, 1.4 billion people lived on US$1.25 or less a day. 10 million die every year of hunger and hunger-related diseases. Rising food prices may push 100 million people deeper into poverty. But fewer children below five are undernourished - from 33% in 1990 to 26% in 2006.
  • #6: But will everyone complete a full course of schooling?
  • #7: A. 9% Brazil. 20% UK 35% Mozambique 49%, Rwanda, In 2008, women held 18% of parliamentary seats worldwide. Child delegate Greer Jackson, age 11, from Guyana speaks on behalf of Children’s Forum delegates, at a reception on Climate Change and Children at the United Nations Headquarters in 2007.
  • #8: 9.7 target by 2015 is C. about 4.8 m.
  • #9: Less than 1% decrease 1990-2015 In 2006, nearly 61% of women gave birth with the help of a midwife or doctor, compared to 55% in 2004. Need health care infrastructure
  • #10: Risk is 1 in 100 for each birth but if a woman is pregnant 5 or more times risk increases over a lifetime. In Niger 1 in 7, Sweden 1 in 17,400
  • #11: • In 2007, 33.2 million people were living with HIV • Malaria kills a child every 30 seconds. It infects 350-500 million people each year, killing 1 million. 250 m. bednets gives 80% coverage in sub-Saharan Africa
  • #12: Nine planet Earths would be required to absorb the world's carbon if every person had the same energy-rich lifestyle as people in developed countries. • Nearly one billion people live in slums. • 2.5 billion people-nearly half the population of the developing world-live without adequate sanitation. • Since 1990, 1.6 billion more people gained access to safe drinking water. Since 1950 the world population has doubled while water consumption has increased six-fold. By 2025 it is expected that 3.4 billion People will be living in countries defined as water-scarce
  • #13: Half the developing world 2.5 billion is without basic sanitation, about 1.6 billion people will need access to improved sanitation over the period 2005-2015 to meet the MDG target
  • #14: In 2007 33 million people were living with HIV. By end of 2007 in developing countries 3 million getting treatment out of nearly 10 million
  • #15: Fairtrade Foundation is looking to achieve a four-fold expansion by 2012 to £2 billion. April to June 2008 grew by 55% from an estimated retail value of £113 million to £176 m in the same period last year = £700 million end 2008?? Worldwide retail sales of dog and cat food $45bn in 2007Western European cat and dog food sales at £9 billion in 2007, France, Germany and the UK combined represent 60% of the Western European pet market.
