- 3. Mantrip This mantrip can hold up to 18 people. A mantrip is a shuttle for transporting miners down into an underground mine at the start of their shift, and out again at the end. Mantrips usually take the form of a train, running on rails and operating like a cable car, but mantrips may also be self-powered, for example by a diesel engine. Other types of mantrips do not require a track and take the form of a pickup truck running on rubber tires. Because many mines have low ceilings, mantrips tend to have a reduced height. - Wikipedia

- 8. Coal is mined by the drum of the continuous miner, scooped up and loaded onto a small conveyer belt by the coal loading arms. It travels the length of the machine, where it drops off of the back onto a conveyor that takes it to the crusher. Yet another conveyer takes the coal above ground, where it is washed and loaded on trains. Whoa! Continuous Miner On it’s way to being crushed! That’s a long ride back up!
