project called the "Maglev Magnetic Two-tier
Monorail rapid transit System" for Puducherry.

A transportation specific project implementers, has
hunger in taking up more and more transportation
projects in India.
We are based in Chennai. This enterprise was started
in 2013. We have 8 members in our team, headed by
Mr.Dhoulat Sah And Mr.Heerlal, Guided by
Dr.Samarjith Roy From UK.

What Is Puduvai Trans?
Puduvai Trans is the name assigned for this
particular Maglev transportation project
which is likely to be started in Puducherry. So,
it is named as puduvai trans.

why this green idea?
Natural resources in India are very rapidly depleting
by all means due to unplanned methodologies, fast
growth in population, accidents etc. So, here is a
time to make use of the more readily available
renewable energy resources available in abundance
across the world and also combining it with the
most innovative non-polluting technologies for
making the best use of natural resources, reducing
expenses and losses and maximizing profits in all
fronts.

India is a vast and fast developing country in all economic fronts with
many natural resources readily available.
Moreover transportation in India is playing an vital role in everyone’s
life in India.
The population in India is heavily on the rise, where transporting
people and freight by the safest means plays an important challenge
in India.
The Maglev technology is the proven one across the world in safety,
non-polluting and various other reasons.
Solar power with Maglev will be the safest mode and green rail
transportation to be first implemented in India.
Why this project in India?

1) About hundreds of years ago there was no fastest means of
transport and people had to walk.
2) Then came horse back.
3) Invention of the wheels --- Cycle --- a popular form of
transport. In China it is the only form of conveyance for the
common man. Cycle – No fuel --- no harm to the environment --
- an eco-friendly vehicle.
4) First invention of the steam engine --- led to the railways.
5) First reliable motor vehicle --- public transport ---the electric
train.
Concept of Transportation

1) Travelling faster and easier, extremely advantageous --- but,
problems associated with them.
2) Petrol run vehicles --- emit toxic fumes and pollute the
atmosphere --- health problems, accidents sometimes fatal. Careless
driving, or the failure of brakes, can prove disastrous.
Every good thing in life also has its negative points and one should
try to find the solution for this.
3) To diminish pollution --- careful driving , well maintained vehicles.
4) Rail transport is a means of conveyance of passengers and goods -
-- steel rails installed on sleepers/ties and ballast, on which the
rolling stock, usually fitted with metal wheels moves.
Modern Means of Transportation

5) Other variations --- Slab track where the rails are
fastened to a concrete foundation resting on a prepared
subsurface.
6) In the 1880s, electrified trains, the first tramways and
rapid transit systems came into being.
7) During the 1960s --- electrified high-speed railway
systems --- introduced in Japan and a few other countries.
10) Other forms of guided ground transport outside the
traditional railway definitions, such as Monorail or
Maglev, were introduced.

Why Maglev?
• The three primary functions in Maglev Magnetic Two-tier Monorail
technology are:
• levitation.
• propulsion and
• guidance.
• Magnetic forces perform all of these.
• These vehicles move along magnetic fields that are established
between the vehicle and its guideway, hence no wheels, axles and
transmission.
• Leviation or suspension is of 2 types.
• EMS (Electromagnetic suspension).
• EDS (Electrodynamic suspension).

The Levitation:
• The EMS uses attractive force system to
levitate the rail car against the
gravitational force.
• Both levitation and propulsion is
achieved using an on board linear motor
coupled with electromagnetic forces.
The Guidance:
• Guidance Magnets are located within
the vehicle.
•The guidance magnets will also guide the
train so that it will follow the direction of
the guideway track.
The EMS (Electromagnetic
suspension Vehicle)

The Levitation:
• The EDS uses repulsive force system
to levitate the rail car against the
gravitational force.
The Guidance:
• Guidance Magnets are located in
the track or guideway.
The EDS (Electrodynamic
suspension Vehicle)

• Propulsion coils on the guideway or track exert a force on the
magnets in the train and make the train move forward.
• The process of propulsion for EMS is same as EDS.
EMS & EDS – Difference
• The EMS system uses standard electromagnets. The coils only
conduct electricity when a power supply is present.
• EDS system uses super-cooled, superconducting electromagnets.
They can conduct electricity even after the power supply has been
shut off.
Propulsion

Advantages of Maglev:
• High speed but, safe.
• No moving parts, so reduces wear and tear of parts cost.
• No physical contact (Absence of wheels) between the train and
track
or guideway, so no deafening noise.
• Environment friendly. Less pollution.
• Are weather proof.
• Equipped with state-of-the-art safety systems, can keep things in
control under any situations.
Disadvantages of Maglev:
• High cost incurred on the initial setup.

Renewable Energy
• Sources also called non-conventional energy, are sources that are
continuously replenished by natural processes.
• Most of the renewable energy comes either directly or indirectly from sun
and wind and can never be exhausted, and therefore they are called
renewable.
• Solar energy, Wind energy, Bio energy, Hydro energy, Geothermal energy,
Wave and tidal energy are the various forms of renewable enrgy sources.
• India receives solar energy in the region of 5 to 7 kWh/m2 for 300 to 330
days in a year. This energy is sufficient to set up 20 MW solar powerplant
per square kilometer.
• Solar photovoltaic uses sun's heat to produce electricity.
• Our system produces DC SOLAR POWER from sunlight through solar
panels and runs the system.

Set up

• This is the MAIN POWER SUPPLIER for the
system.
• Set up in 3 hectares = 7.41316 Acres.
• Solar plant to be set up inside the premises
of the depot for better maintenance
purposes.
• Generates a total of 2.5 MW of DC power
required to run the system.
• Secured with necessary battery backup
systems and security features.
Features of the Solar Power
Plant

Each cabin is:
1) 9.20 metres long,
2) 2.244 metres wide and
3) 2.623 metres high.
4)The interior height for standing passengers is
2.003 m. 5) Sliding doors: 1.350 m wide
automatic at each side.
6) Seating: 16 persons.
7) Standing: 29 passengers.
8)The cabin shell weighs 4955 kg.
9)The complete car weighs 8455 kg.
with bogies weighing 1750 kg each.
It can carry a useful load of upto 4923 kg and has
a maximum gross weight of 13378 kg.

• The nominal speed is 75 km/h,
• The maximum acceleration is greater than 1 m/s2,

• The weakening of the DC motor fields begins over the speed
of 36 km/h.

Land allocated: Over a 2 hectares = 4.94211 Acres
Location: Near Puducherry University, Kalapet. About
500 meters from Puducherry University station.

Features of the Maglev depot
The main components of the maintenance depot will
have:
•Workshop and heavy cleaning shed for the Rolling
Stock.
•Operational and functional safety requirements.
•Ancillary buildings for other maintenance facilities.
•Electrical & Mechanical Services, power supply and
distribution system.
•Inspection bay.
• Stabling and rack facility.
• Staff Quarters.
•Water Supplies, Drainage & Sewerage.

Station details
The minimun distance between two consecutive stations will
be approximately 800 meters.

Pillar design – The Box model
• The entire stretch of alignment is elevated, carried on
single concrete pillars generally located along the median
of the road at the New Bus Stand To
Ganapathychettykulam.
• Approximately 573 pillars will be constructed in median
of the road.

• The guideway is the structure that maglev vehicles move over it and
are supported and guided by it.
Its main roles are:
•To direct the movement of the vehicle.
• To support the vehicle load.
• To transfer the load to the ground.
• Guideways can be constructed at grade (ground-level) or elevated
including columns with concrete, steel or hybrid beams.
•Maglev elevated guideways minimize land occupation and prevent
collision with other forms of traffic at-grade intersections.

The Traction Substation (TSS)
• This is the actual power used to run the rail car throughout the stations.
• 750 V DC is maintained throughout these traction substations for running
the rail car.
• Four traction substation’s are totally present along the 16
station route.
• A single traction substation takes control of 4 stations for
providing and maintaining the 750 V DC power to keep the
rail car moving.
• The Main sub station has control over the 4 traction sub
stations(TSS).
• The excess power generated is converted into AC and sold to the
Puducherry Electricity Board (PEB).

Auxiliary Substation (ASS)
• This power is received from the PEB grid station and fed to the
ASS for only the usage of electrical appliances (like escalators, lifts,
air-conditioners, lights etc …) in the station premises only.
• The Auxillary power from the PEB is directed to the ASS and is in
turn connected to all the station for providing the AC power and is
connected through cabling.
• The total consumption of the Auxillary power in the station premises is
recorded and the cost for the consumed power is paid to the PEB
(Puducherry Electricity Board) under the “Net Metering” policy.
•What is Net Metering Policy?
We are using AC power from PEB. We are generating DC power from solar
panels in roof tops of stations, depot etc. We will sell this extra DC power to
the PEB. We will pay for the consumed electricity EB bill reducing the
amount from the sold DC power.

Telecommunication Systems
• Digital Protection Control System (DPCS):
Providing data acquisition, data processing, overall protection control,
interlocking, inter-tripping and monitoring of the entire power supply system.
• Operation Control Centre (OCC):
The entire system of power supply (receiving, traction & auxiliary supply) shall
be monitored and controlled from this centralized centre.
• Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA):
SCADA is a computer-based system for gathering and analyzing real-time data
to monitor and control equipment that deals with critical and time-sensitive
materials or events.
• Microprocessor-based fast-acting numerical relays & Programmable Logic
Controllers (PLCs) with suitable interface with SCADA system.
The SCADA system shall record any events caused by faults, malfunctions, warnings or
alarm information generated automatically by the selected equipment. A central
recording system shall be provided to record all the events.

Security & Safety Features
• Advanced Fire fighting, processing and
telecommunication equipments.
• Customer care services.
• Presence of CCTV’S.
• Station control rooms.
• Operations Control System.
• Proper fencing.
• More importance to the differently abled persons.
• The entire system of power supply (receiving, traction &
auxiliary supply) shall be monitored and controlled from
a centralized Operation Control Centre (OCC) through
SCADA system being provided at Maintenance Depot
near Puducherry University.

• All staff are trained to deal with a wide range of
situations and emergencies.
• Station and train staff maintain a high level of visibility
to provide customer confidence.
• Digital Protection Control System (DPCS) is proposed
for providing data acquisition, data processing, overall
protection control, interlocking, inter-tripping and
monitoring of the entire power supply system .
• DPCS will utilize microprocessor-based fast-acting
numerical relays & Programmable Logic Controllers
(PLCs) with suitable interface with SCADA system.

Rescue Concept
Passenger Safety and Evacuation
The puduvai trans will be fully automated (no
drivers) with central control from facilities
adjacent to the guideways. Security
personnel, by means of audio-visual
communication, would view the vehicles
inside at all times, during unloading and
loading as well as while traveling on the
guideway. Laser beams on-board the vehicle
will control any irregularities or emergencies
on the guideway and bring the vehicle to a
stop if needed. Special vehicle escape devices
i.e. each car contains a provision wherein an
emergency slide way passage is in-built for
the passengers to evacuate (as shown in the
figure) from elevated guideways.

Funding for the project.
Many FOREIGN investors are willing to be a part of this highly
innovative transportation project likely to be implemented in
Puducherry, India.
1st Phase: expected to be completed in 3 years.
Project start year: By the end of 2015, after Government’s
approval.
Completion of the project: Expected by the end of 2018.
Our model for financing the Project.
A Build, Operate & Transfer (BOT) model.
The one being “ESCL” based in UK.
Project funding through SBLC (Stand By Letter of Credit)
procedure.
Funding

Basically there are only 3 suppliers for supply of rolling stock (rail car) viz.
1. M/s. Hitachi Ltd of Japan.
2. M/s. Bombardier, Germany.
3. M/s. Siemens, Germany.
Rolling stock, traction system, signalling and telecommunication, depot
installation, turn outs, and technology support are all combined into one
single package.
This will cover roughly 60% cost of the project.
All these three suppliers are capable of bringing in supplier’s credit through
their Respective EXIM banks or they may be even able to tie up bilateral
loans from their respective counties (like JICA, JBIC or KFW) to cover the
project supplies. The above funding model will ensure completion of the
Project within 3 years and at the minimum cost. This funding model is
therefore recommended for acceptance.
