Geography is important to teach in elementary schools for several reasons:
1) Geography provides conceptual links between a child's home, school, and the wider world by starting locally and expanding outwards.
2) It deals with how people interact with environments and each other in different places, allowing students to draw generalizations about the complex world.
3) Geography education provides knowledge of physical and cultural characteristics of the world as well as an understanding of ourselves, our relationship to Earth, and interdependence with other peoples.
