- 2. Has anyone noticed that when FaceBook opened its doors to the public; the public closed the MySpace door? It’s true and there are many reasons why FaceBook is better than MySpace when it comes to social networking. These reasons include: Easy Usage Privacy Programming and Loading
- 3. “ FaceBook has a clear, easy to use, and uncluttered interface”(surfnetkids.com) It is easy for FaceBook users to navigate around and make a creative page on FaceBook. Unlike FaceBook, in order to add special effects to your MySpace page you have to add special characters which most people have to dedicate days learning. For example you have to type this in to get a blue background on MySpace: <style type="text/css"> table, td { background-color:transparent; border:none; border-width:0;} body { background-color: #3300FF; background-image: url('image_url'); background-repeat: repeat-y; background-position: center;} </style> FaceBook is much easier. You just click on “blue” in the skins section.
- 4. It is well known that FaceBook beats MySpace when it comes to privacy. “ I think FaceBook is more protected. You just can’t click on a person and access their profile. They have to accept you as a friend first,” Keppel says. “And FaceBook is a really nice way to find out what happened to your old classmates from high school. It’s going to be the new high school reunion – you can always keep in touch through this. I even met my roommate for next year on FaceBook” (northampton.edu, 2006) First of all, FaceBook requires all users to have a school e-mail in order to be a user. However, anyone with an e-mail address, valid or not, can be a MySpace user. FaceBook creates a safer online community. Also, no body can see your page unless you add them as a friend. On the other hand, MySpace allows the entire world to see your personal page and pictures. FaceBook helps to lessen online stalking.

Referring to MySpace; “There are some problems with programming when transferring the layouts and generated data if any is left out” (surfnetkids.com) Remember that complicated way of telling MySpace that you want a blue background? Well if you were to leave out a “;” or a “<“ or any piece of that puzzle, then you will end up with a page with no background at all. Also, when you want to load a picture on MySpace it is not common for people to wait 5-10 mins for that picture to load. On the plus side, FaceBook takes less than 1 min for your picture to load. You can also load music and wall post much faster than MySpace. “ FaceBook does not have much of a risk for programming or loading problems” (surfnetkids.com).
- 6. As you can see, FaceBook triumphs over MySpace. It’s faster, easier to use, safer, and has privacy control.
