Modular Power and Controls Building
ACS “Apex Controls Specialists” introduces the Modular Power and
Controls building. The building was first utilized in 1999 as a means of
building modular controls for extrusion systems. Since then, the
building has been utilized for many different processes offering the
following benefits:
Hazard Containment: The building comes standard with fire and
smoke detection. If a fire should occur, the fire stays contained within
the building and not spread to the rest of the outside buildings or
processes. A dry chemical suppression system can also be added
within the building to quickly contain a fire. The building has been
designed for liquid feed systems that pump volatile, explosive
chemicals. The building units are designed with blow-out walls for
containment from other outside structures.
Modular Power and Controls Building
Equipment Lifecycle: Equipment that is placed in the building is
protected from dust and outside process contamination. The unit
comes standard with a positive pressure system. When the door is
opened, a blower starts and blows air out the door and keeps outside
contaminates from entering the room. The lifecycle of the equipment
is greatly improved.
Completed Wiring: All equipment mounted in the room can have all
internal wiring completed. Power and controls cables leaving the
room can be on an easy plug-and-play concept so that much of the
wiring can be completed and tested before the unit leaves our facility.
By having much of the wiring already completed can save time at the
installation of the process, which can mean fewer interruptions on an
existing plant floor.
Mobile Asset: Since the unit is modular it can easily be disconnected
and moved to a different location and connected back up and in
operation in no time.
Modular Power and Controls Building
Different Models: ACS has completed several models of the building:
CCC “Compounding Control Center” – The main control
center houses the MCC, heater panel, main PLC panel
and main extruder drive. The entire system is on the
plug/receptacle concept.
UCC “Utility Control Center” - The control center mainly
houses MCC’s and PLC’s used to support ancillary
equipment for a process. By using MCC’s, there is one
main power connection at the MCC and the unit
becomes a power distribution center for multiple loads.
PCC “Process Control Center” - This model can house
controls systems or equipment such as containment of
pumps that move volatile chemicals, blowers for sound
improvement, and simple processes that need to be
mobile for multiple uses.
Modular Power and Controls Building
The unit can be used for many applications and
can be built for an outdoor location if needed.
The units are fabricated using solid steel
construction. They are built to withstand world-
wide shipping needs. ACS also has a unit that has
been designed using a standard sea crate.
We, at ACS, see the unit as an affordable way to
extend equipment lifecycle, contain hazards,
reduce install and startup times, and provide a
mobile asset that can be easily disconnected and
re-shipped to other locations.
