This document provides recommendations for identifying problem behaviors in students and their underlying causes. It recommends:
1) Concretely describing problem behaviors and their effects on learning.
2) Observing and recording the frequency, time, location, and other contexts of problem behaviors to identify patterns.
3) Identifying what prompts and reinforces problem behaviors by examining triggers and consequences to understand functions of the behaviors.
The document also addresses potential roadblocks teachers may face in implementation and provides suggested solutions.
