LCPBW COURSE TOPICS Orientation Personal Safety on the Fireline Fire Behaviour Constructing Fireline with Handtools The Power Pump Hoselay and Hose Retrieval Nozzle Operation and Water Application Mopping Up a Fire Fireline Patrol and Observation Hand-Held Burnout Operations
Prescribed burning is defined as: “ The  knowledgeable  and deliberate application of fire to a  specific  land area  under  predetermined conditions   to accomplish silvicultural, wildlife management, hazard reduction, ecosystem management and other land and resource  management   objectives .”
LCPB ORGANIZATION The chain of command specifies who you report to and who reports to you.  Everyone must be fully aware of his/her authority and responsibilities. Span of control is the number of ‘units’ one person can effectively supervise.  These units can be workers, equipment, ignition crews or mop-up crews. Chain of Command: Span of Control:
A Typical LCPB Organization
DUTIES OF A LOW COMPLEXITY PRESCRIBED BURN WORKER Under general direction from the Burn Boss you will: Participate as a worker on a LCPB. Assist in the ignition of a LCPB using only perimeter ignition techniques from an established control line.  Use only ignition devices that are recommended and with which you are familiar. Follow all safety procedures and wear the personal protective equipment appropriate for the task you are undertaking. This includes hardhat, leather gloves, ear and eye protection and steel toed workboots.  Nomex or other fire resistant clothing is recommended.

BEING PART OF A TEAM Respect  one another’s thoughts/wishes Be consistently  on time Have a  sense of humour Listen  to everyone’s opinion Help one another  learn Share  ideas and values Have a  positive attitude/mannerisms Maintain  loyalty  to the group Get to know each other but  respect each other’s space Provide  positive  feedback Discuss ideas,  compromise  & move on
