So, are you prepared to hit Lawrence for Orientation
and enroll as an official Jayhawk?
First, be sure you’ve completed the Pre-Orientation
Survey that’s part of Discover KU and completed your list
of 10 most interesting classes, focusing on first-year KU
Core classes, at classes.ku.edu.
The survey is your first chance to give your advisor an
idea of what subjects most interest you and what you’re
most looking forward to as a first-year student. When
filling out your list of classes, remember most first-year
courses are 100 and 200 level. Focus on courses in the KU
Core and your degree requirements.
Second, be sure to login to the Orientation portal to confirm
your session date, and research any other questions about the
day that come up. You’ll use your KU online ID and password,
the same ID you’ll need at Orientation.
If you need to make changes to your preferred major prior to
Orientation, visit http://admissions.ku.edu/update-your-
application.
Third, be sure you’ve checked off each of these items before you
head out the door for the Kansas Union on your Orientation day:
Government-issued photo ID so you can get your KU Card
Any official college transcripts not yet on file with Admissions
Placement exam scores not yet submitted
Any financial aid materials not yet submitted
Be sure you’ve completed your Immunization History Form for
Student Health Services
Comfortable shoes, an umbrella, and a jacket for rooms with chilly
AC!
No matter which Orientation session you select, your
day will begin with an introduction to KU and then right
away you’ll interact with a KU student about the
experience on the Hill.
There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions
with your student orientation assistant and an advisor.
Your Enrollment session will be one of the last items on
your list.
Best of all, don’t worry about snacks and drinks. We’ve
got you covered!
Just because Orientation is over doesn’t mean your experience as a
first-year Jayhawk is on hold until the first day of classes August 24!
All students will receive a copy of the 2015-16 KU Common Book, A
Farewell to Arms, at Orientation. KU Common Book is simple – read
the book, meet your fellow Jayhawks. While you’re reading this
summer, track your progress (and follow others) at #KUcommonbook.
Hawk Week starts with move-in day and fills your schedule through
Convocation, the official kick-off of the 2015-16 academic year.
Through a variety of events and activities, you’ll explore campus,
meet new people, learn university traditions, and launch your KU
career.
The Office of First-year Experience is your host and source for any
questions or if you need additional information.
