Students will be pre-grouped to ensure a variety of devices per group in teams of two or three with one above average performing student assigned to each group. Student Choice of Topics for Student Research: Gettysburg, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and Bull Run Students can narrow their topics from within these broader topics. Teacher/Class Activities: 1. Discuss and demonstrate using the four Civil War apps 2. Discuss the four Civil War battle topics and choosing a topic within these broader topics
- 3. 3. Inform students of team mates, get in groups and get topics from students. Student Activities: 1. Explore the Civil War app for the topic they selected clicking on videos, images, audio, etc. 2. Take notes on their device or on notebook paper. Assessment/ Conclusion of Lesson: 1. Students will be stopped from their research and informed that they will be using the Edmodo App next. Students will reply to the latest post that the teacher has posted about the Civil War App assignment. (Students should be already familiar with Edmodo, assigned to a class, and have an account). 2. Their post to Edmodo will include three to five interesting or unique facts that the group has learned about their Civil War battle or sub topic of it while using the apps. This should be something not considered common knowledge or covered in class previously. 3. The teacher will display the discussion on the mimeo board. 4. The teacher will lead class discussion on: their posts and what they learned about the Civil War Battles the Civil War apps- Their ease of use and information available at them. Student ideas for projects using Web 2.0 tools (presentations, videos, curation tools, web sites) using these apps as a resource of information 5. Students will be assessed based based on: Teacher observed participation in the group research and note taking Amount of facts posted at Edmodo Uniqueness of facts shared 6. The teacher will make notes of the student topics and project Web 2.0 tools to begin the next day.
