WEB 2.0
 Are You a Web 2.0 Educator?

In the Web 2.0 educators' classrooms, students do not "spend much of the day as their great-grandparents once did: sitting in rows, listening to teachers
lecture, scribbling notes by hand, reading from textbooks that are out of date by the time they are printed." How to Bring Our Schools Out of the 20th
Century

The Web 2.0 educators incorporate into their teaching the Web 2.0 tools: dynamic websites, blogs, video blogs, podcasts, photo and video sharing, feed
readers, wikis, social networks, online word processors, spreadsheets, and presentations.

The Web 2.0 teachers:
have RSS feed readers
 subscribe to news and blogs in their fields
 have their own blogs, wikis, and websites
 share their best practices with others via podcasts, photo or video sharing
 effectively supervise their students through RSS
 use wikis and online word processors, spreadsheets, and presentations to collaborate with their colleagues and students
 adding new technologies to their curriculum.
SINGULARITY
 What is Singularity?

The Singularity is the technological creation of smarter-than-human intelligence by means of technologies as
 artificial Intelligence, direct brain-computer interfaces, biological augmentation of the brain, genetic
engineering, and ultra-high-resolution scans of the brain followed by computer emulation.
 In 1965, I.J. Good proposed that machines would one day be smart enough to make themselves smarter.
Having made themselves smarter, they would spot still further opportunities for improvement, quickly leaving
human intelligence far behind [singinst.org]. He called this the "intelligence explosion."
 Vernor Vinge, Department of Mathematical Sciences, San Diego State University, originally coined the term
"Singularity" iin his 1993 essay "The Coming Technological Singularity", in which he argues that the creation of
superhuman artificial intelligence will mark the point at which "the human era will be ended," such that no current
models of reality are sufficient to predict beyond it.
 "Within thirty years, we will have the technological means to create superhuman intelligence. Shortly
after, the human era will be ended." - "The Coming Technological Singularity" by Vernor Vinge, 1993

"FLATTENERS" OF THE
               WORLD
 The World is Flat

The book was first released in 2005, was later released as an "updated and expanded" edition in 2006, and yet again released with additional updates in 2007 as
"further updated and expanded: Release 3.0."

Nandan Nilekani

Thomas L. Friedman came up with an idea for his book “The World is Flat“ after an interview with Nandan Nilekani, Co-Chairman of Infosys Technologies Ltd. in
India.


Why “Flat”?

Friedman, foreign affairs columnist for The New York Times, and Nandan Nilekani, CEO of Infosys, in India, were discussing massive investment into technology
which created a platform “where intellectual work, intellectual capital, could be delivered from anywhere. It could be
disaggregated, delivered, distributed, produced, and put back together again and this gave a whole new degree of freedom to the way we do work, especially work of
an intellectual nature…” Nilekani mentioned that “the playing field is being leveled between countries” like India, and that America had better get ready for this.
This conversation with Nilekani made Friedman to see clearly that the global competitive playing field was being leveled and inspired him to write a book.
 Friedman lists ten "flatteners" of the world:
MODULE 2: ASSIGNMENTS
 1. Go to http://www.go2web20.net/. Select one web 2.0 application and describe it. Explain whether this application would be useful for your e-learning course.
 2. What do you think about the future of technology?
 3. Business leaders are now examining the effectiveness of Mindfulness and Meditation to reduce stress, improve concentration and increase overall company's productivity.
 Would mindfulness (meditation, zen) be helpful for your e-learning business?

4. Answer the following questions:
 What is your average class size at KCGI?
 What percentage of teachers in college would be able to recognize you and call you by name?
 What percentage of assigned readings do you complete?
 How many books have you read per month?
 On average, how many web pages do you read each day?
 On average, how many pages do you write for your classes each semester?
